C++ :: Intellisensor Not Recognizing String Data Type
Apr 26, 2014
So Im working on my semester prject for my programming class. It is to make a roulette game. And Im working on getting my table set up but the intellisensor in my Visual Studio seems to not be working and recognizing the string variable type. Its not changing to blue when I enter it.
This program is a roulette simulation, designed to be used for online gambling.
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <Windows.h>
#include <string>
#include <ctime>
using namespace std;
//Function Prototypes
void welcome();
double getBalance();
[Code] .....
When I run the program it gives me an error as well sometimes. This one: Unhandled exception at 0x0f681f68 (msvcp100d.dll) in Roulette Final Project.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x8bb59d35.
Which opens another tab named "iosfwd" and points to this bit of code:
static int_type __CLRCALL_OR_CDECL to_int_type(const _Elem& _Ch)
{// convert character to metacharacter
return ((unsigned char)_Ch);
}

The List[] array contains some empty entries but most are filled, yet every time I run this routine the variable Index makes it to the end of the array. I've tried many different routes and can't seem to figure out this simple issue.
string Result = string.Empty;
while ((Index < (List.Length - 1)) || !string.IsNullOrEmpty(Result))
{
Result = List[Index];
Index++;
}
return Result;

I have an assignment where I need to read in a phone number into any array and I can't use the string data type. Assuming I need to use the getline function, how do I do this? I'm guessing it's with the cstring or .c_str() functions? I don't know.

My intent was to convert the string variable for the year to an integer data type. The code compiles but now cannot run on my system. I'm not sure what's going as to what the program is displaying.
Objective: Prompt the user for two years. Print all Comedy movies that were released between those two years.
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <string>
#include <fstream>
#include <cctype>
using namespace std;
struct Movie {
string name;

I'm working on this homework assignment where the program takes in the user's height in inches, weight in pounds, and age, then calculates their hat size, jacket size and waist size. The formulas for these are as follows:
Hat: (weight/height) x 2.9
Jacket: (height x weight)/288 then adjusted by adding 1/8 an inch for every 10 years over the age of 30 (The adjustment only takes place after a full 10 years, so there is no adjustment for 30-39, but there is for 40)
Waist: (weight/5.7) then adjusted by adding 1/10 of an inch for each 2 years over the age of 28 (the adjustment only takes place after a full 2 years, so no adjustment for 29, but there is for 30, etc)
I'm supposed to utilize functions for each of the three formulas.
There's a couple things I can't figure out.
1. Why won't the compiler recognize 2.9 and 5.7 as numbers?
2. How do I adjust the calculation for the jacket and waist based on age?
Here's what I've got so far:
#include <cstdlib>
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
double hatSize(int weight, int height);
double jacketSize(int weight, int height, int age);
double waistSize(int weight, int height, int age);
[code]....

I have a program that's not doing what I want it to do. This is the assignment:
The nth term of the sequence of triangle numbers is given by, tn = 1/2 n (n+1); so the first ten triangle numbers are:
1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45, 55,...
By converting each letter in a word to a number corresponding to its alphabetical position and adding these values we form a word value. For example, the word value for SKY is 19 + 11 + 25 = 55 = t10. If the word value is a triangle number then we shall call the word a triangle word.
the 'words.txt' has a bunch of words in this format:
"ABSTRACT"
"YOUTH"
there's about 1000 words in that format.
And for any triangle words I find, I put it into another text file which I called triangle.txt.
Now for my program, it pulls the 'words.txt' file just fine but it doesn't recognize any of the words in the file as triangle words.
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
#include <sstream>
#include <cmath>
#include <cstdlib>
int getCharValue(char a);
double sum1(std::string name);
[code]....

I'm writing a linked list program for class that has a simple text based menu and I believe I am nearly done, it just wont recognize my "count" function as a function and I don't know why. The error comes up at line 70.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
typedef struct node {
int datum;
struct node *next;
} node_t;

I'm trying to create a new data type Data declared as int. What comes up to my mind is to create a structure like
Code:
typedef struct Data {
int number;
} Data;
but when I need to use the data I need to go through the structure. Is this a good way to declare a new data type?

Ok, so I'm writing this code and when I build it keeps saying cannot implicitely convert type int to string even though I declared my variables as string. Why is it giving me this error?
private static string Repair()
{
string result="";
string beep;
string spin;
Console.WriteLine("Does your computer beep on startup?:(y,n)");

I wrote a program that reads a list from a file and stores it in a string type vector. Now, I want the user to input a word so that the program can search the vector to see if that word already exists. I have used every possible way of reading input from the console and storing it in order to compare with the vector but it never results in a match. When I print the input string and the vector string they are exactly the same thing (or at least print to the console as if they were). I've tried using getline; using cin direct to a string var; using cin to a char array and then casting to string using string str(arr); I even added a newline at the end just in case and STILL I cannot get a match.
vector <string> currentSet; //read a list in from a file and has 9 items in it
cin.ignore();
string line;
getline(cin, line);
if(line == vector[0]){//if printed to console line is HEAT and vector[0] is HEAT
cout<<"match"<<endl;
}

I want to create a new data type called an inf_t. It's basically infinity (which for C++ is 1.7e+308). The only reason I want this is because I want to overload the cout << operation to print out INF/inf. Should I do this in a struct?
Code: struct inf_t {
private:
double inf = 1.7e+308;
};
std::ostream& operator << (std::ostream &stream, inf_t inf) {
stream << "INF";
return stream;
}

I am writing a program where I need to read a byte of char data and convert it into a text string of binary data that represents the hex value...
i.e. The char byte is 0x42 so I need a string that has 01000010 in it. I've written the following subroutine....
------------- My Subroutine ----------------------------------------------------------------------
void charbytetostring(char input, char *output){
int i, remainder;
char BASE=0x2;
int DIGITS=8;
char digitsArray[3] = "01";
[Code] ....
When I submitted the byte 0x42 to the subroutine, the subroutine returned to the output variable 01000010... Life is good.
The next byte that came in was 0x91. When I submit this to the subroutine I get garbage out.
I am using a debugger and stepped through the subroutine a line at a time. When I feed it 0x42 I get what I expect for all variables at all points in the execution.
When I submit 0x91 When the line remainder = input % BASE; gets executed the remainder variable gets set to 0xFFFF (I expected 1). Also, when the next line gets executed..
input = input / BASE; I get C9 where I expected to get 48.
My question is, are there data limits on what can be used with the mod (%) operator? Or am I doing something more fundamentally incorrect?

I have two char variables, m_GPSOffset[13] and m_FileName[100]. When m_GPSOffset has a value assigned to it, say for instance +11:25:30. The first entry of the value, in this case +, is always stored in m_FileName. I am clueless on why this is occurring.

I know that an int is usually 4 bytes, ranging from -2^31 to 2^31-1 for a signed int and 0 to 2^32-1 for an unsigned int. My question is simply, bit-wise (I know they are labelled in the code), how does it determine whether to show -2^31 or 2^32-1 if it was 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 in bits? Is there a 5th byte to tell the compiler what data type to treat the input as?

Working on a Project Euler problem and the question asks for the largest prime number that is a factor of 600851475143. As you can see, this is significantly larger than the maximum of a long data type, which maxes out at 2147483647.
I'm running on Windows 32, so int64 is not a valid option for me. It seems like I'll likely have to use a different language to solve this problem.

I'm currently trying to solve a programming assignment and i got the logic of it, however i find it hard to implement.
What i need to do basically is fill an array with objects. Each object is a class that contains only one type of data. This means i can place int, double and string for example in one simple array.
However i can't figure out how to read data and then decide what it is. Even if i use templates once i call the function i have to give it a type, so getType<int> for example will not work with double or string.
I know about typeID and how to use it, i just can't figure out where to use it.

I know how to store numeric data using keywords int, long, float, and so on. I'm making my own program called "Who is your soul-mate".The only question I want to ask is what's the keyword for storing alphabet data? As you can see below on my source file. I want to replace "int" keyword with another keyword that can store alphabet data. It's all in standard C.
#include <stdio.h>
int soulm01, soulm02, soulm03;
int year_of_birth;
int main(void)

In my main I have a do/while loop, which is to iterate around the method calculateImportance while i is not equal to the numNodes.
do
{
int i;
int numNodes = Test.count();
for(i=0; i<=numNodes; i++)
[Code]....
I have been messing around with the data type node, hence why it is there are present, but, that doesn't seem to the answer
This is the function declaration in the header file.
node CalculateImportance();

Ok so I have this simple program that gets input from a user. I just want to put in a line of code to make sure that hte user can't type in something like "pizza" , I want to make it say that if the user puts in something that is NOT a number they will get a error back saying "Wrong! try again!" Here is my code :
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
//Summation Program
//Function Prototypes
int get_num();
void compute_sum(int num, int &sum);

Assume the user has already put in the number of students (hence my variables numStuds, which will most likely be irrelevant to my problem).
So suppose I have this:
void inputStudentInfo(string *names, int *movies, const int numStuds) {
for(int i =0; i < numStuds; i++) {
cout << "Enter student name: "; getline(cin, names[i]); read_string(names[i]);
[Code] ....
Then I have my data type checking function:
//Data-Type Checking for strings
string read_string(string Sname) {
while(!cin.good())
[Code] ....
I am getting errors. I know the problem I think is that I am trying to data type check for a string made up of pointers* with just a string but I don't know how I am supposed to check this?
