C/C++ :: Program To Read In And Count All Printable Characters (ASCII 32-126)

Feb 12, 2014

I'm writing a program that reads and counts all the printable characters (ASCII 32-126)found in a text file.

For example if the text file read: Why so serious?

The output to the screen would display(in order of ascii value however):

Character-----Total
W--------------1
h--------------1
y--------------1
s--------------3
o--------------2
etc...

However, I don't think it's reading any of the characters.

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <fstream>
#include <cmath>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int i, count[127];

C :: Detect Frequency Of Printable Characters - Incorrect Outcome

Mar 10, 2013

We have to make a code to detect the frequency of printable characters. But when I run the code, sometimes it can't detect the Uppercase Letters. But it can sometimes. It's a bit buggy, and it really can't get the frequency of the space character.

Does textcolor affect the outcome?

Code:
#include<stdio.h>#include<conio.h>
int main ()
{
clrscr();
char name[40],sentence[1000],ch;
int c=0,count[95]={0};
textcolor(LIGHTCYAN);

[Code] ....

I also noticed that it stops detecting the frequency when there is a space between character/s.

C/C++ :: Sorting A File Based On ASCII Values?

Sep 1, 2014

New file_sorter.c:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include "sort.h"
#include <string.h>

[Code].....

My issue is now a segmentation fault in my sorting algorithm. In my assignment I was suppose to implement quick and insertion sort for the file, and organised strictly by ASCII values. We were allowed to look up generic algorithms for the sorts, but we have to convert them to comparing char arrays.

I haven't started trying to configure quick sort yet, but I'll supply the generic algorithm as well. keep in mind that the first line in the file contains the number of lines in the file. I'll try not to disappear this time!

sort.c :
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stddef.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

C :: Load Up File That Contains Series Of Int Values Stored In ASCII

Sep 23, 2013

This seems like a fairly straight forward assignment. Load up a file that contains a series of int values stored in ASCII and print out the ASCII characters to the console.

The problem I am having is that I am getting the numerical value of bytes ("40" for 10 numerical values, "200" for 50 values). The numbers are generated randomly by another file, but I can control how many numbers are generated. For example, if I type in:

shell% cat tempfile

the output is as follows:

/8?qE?. Y4?(T???a???%@

but when I try to run it with my program:

shell% ./intcat tempfile

the output displayed is:

40

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <assert.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>
#include <unistd.h>

I've tried using CImg but even the basic test examples fail with "undefined reference to setdibbitstodevice...." or something like that. I know CImg is a powerful library and it can even manipulate images, but I need something just to read it.

C++ :: Linking Static Library To CPP File

Jun 20, 2013

I have a libcx3d.a which contains my VrmlParser class and other classes which are used by VrmlParser. I have a main.cpp which does this :

VrmlParser vp = new VrmlParser();
double **VOB = vp.getVOB();

When I compile using g++ main.cpp -o main -L. -lcx3d, I get the following errors :

'VrmlParser' was not declared in this scope.
expected ';' before vp.
'vp' was not declared in this scope.

There is a header file called "VrmlParser.h" in the static library. Should I include this header file in main.cpp ? If so, will include "VrmlParser.h" work ? I have the .a and .cpp in the same directory. I can't find the header file for the static library.

C :: Create Polymorphic Linked List Library File?

Linked lists seem to be the most erroneous and most frequent thing I use and post about nowadays. I've been wanting to handle data structures in my own library of functions, but I'm not sure how to imitate polymorphism without too many ambiguities. I could just pass some character or string value to represent a type, but I wanted to see if there was actually something more elegant I could use before I dive in.

C++ :: Shared Library Vs Static Library?

Jan 17, 2014

I've been reading about libraries; How to make them, how to use them, the different types of libraries, etc..

When using a shared library, does the program require that library to be installed on the computer after the program has been compiled into an .exe?

Ie.. if somebody downloaded a "Helloworld.exe" that I had compiled on my computer using a shared library (that wasn't part of a standard operating system), would they also need that shared library on their computer for the program to run without errors?

and for Static Libraries, when I compile a program using a static library, does it include in the final binary only the functions of the library that are actually used, or does the compiler add in the entire library?

C :: Reading From A File And Skipping Lines To Find String In File

Nov 26, 2013

Program background: Ticket Sales Details You will sell tickets in advance and at the door. Prices for buying in advance and at the door will be given. Also, the total number of tickets sold in advance will be given. Each guest will have a unique number. If there are n tickets sold in advance, then these guests will be numbered 0 through n-1. As the event starts, requests to buy tickets at the door may be made and these guests will be numbered sequentially, starting at the lowest unassigned number. The maximum number of guests will be 1000. The first line of the file contains the following three values, separated by spaces: Cost of the presales tickets (in dollars), Cost of the tickets at the door (in dollars), and the number of presale tickets. The first two values will be positive real numbers to two decimal places and the last will be a positive integer.

The second line of the file will contain one positive integer representing the number of auction items followed by a positive real value to two decimal places (at most) representing the minimum bid increment, in dollars. The first value is guaranteed to be 1000 or less and the second will be in between 1 and 50, inclusive.

The third line of the file will contain all the prices of the auction items, in dollars, separated by spaces, in order. Thus, the first price is the price of item 0, the next price is the price of item 1, and so on. These values will be real numbers represented to up to 2 decimal places.

The fourth line of the file will contain the three following positive integers pertaining to the raffle: the number of raffle tickets available, the cost of a raffle ticket in dollars, and the number of raffle prizes. (It's strange to have raffle tickets that don't cost a whole number of dollars.)

The fifth line of the file will contain each of the values of the raffle items, in dollars, separated by spaces, in order. Thus, the first price is the price if item 0, the next price is the price of item 1, and so on. These values will be real numbers with upto 2 decimal places.

The sixth line of the file will contain ten positive integers representing the number of each of the drinks 0 through 9, in order, that are in stock.

The seventh line of the file will contain ten positive real numbers with upto 2 decimal places representing the price of each of the drinks 0 through 9, in order.

The eighth line of the file will contain a single positive integer, numEvents, representing the number of events that occur at the charity ball. These events are split into two groups: actions by guests at the ball and awards given (raffle, auction, person, totalrevenue). All of the actions precede all of the awards. You will produce exactly one line of output for each event described. Here are the formats of each event that could occur:

If a patron buys a ticket at the door, a command will be on a line by itself:

BUY TICKET k

where k is a positive integer indicating the number of tickets bought at the door. These guests will be numbered as previously mentioned. You are guaranteed that the total number of tickets bought, including presales, will not exceed 1000. This is what I have so far and I cannot figure out why it wont calculate the total revenue. I am not completely sure if it is even accessing the if statement in main.

Code:

#include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#define N 1000

C++ :: Subtracting ASCII Hex Value In 64 Bit Hex Value

Mar 31, 2015

I have some ascii characters in a char variable.ex - char buf[100]="ab*(z&";

So each of the char in that char array will have some hex value.ex- *'s hex value is '2a'.

And I have a long long int variable in which there is a 64 bit hex value.

ex- long long int k=0x0000888888888888;

Now i want to subtract the char buff's hex value in k. How to accomplish it.

That is 0x0000888888888888
- 0x000061622a287a26
= 0x000027265e600e62 (final result in a buffer or a long variable is okay)

Later i want to reverse the result as 26e006e56272.It should be stored in a variable such that i should be able to access each byte from it(ex- '72'(last 2 hex digits))

C :: How To Find MIN And MAX From TXT File

Mar 16, 2013

I just got assigned a project in my C programming class. The objective is to find the min and max number out of a .txt file full of numbers on separate lines called "data.txt". I am pretty much stuck at this point. I don't know how to actually scan the file and print the min and max. Also, the list of numbers in the data.txt file contains hundred on hundreds of numbers. So I couldn't specify the exact amount of numbers listed in the file. I must also find the count number, sum, and the average of the given data, So far I have:

Code:

#include<stdio.h>
int main()
{
int counter=0;
int maximum=0, minimum=1;
int num_data_points, avg;
double max, min;
FILE *sensor;
