C :: Linear Search Script - Calling Array Inside Of User Defined Function?
Jul 24, 2013
im tasked with creating a linear search script using functions on a 10 element array. the elements are to be supplied by the user as is the search target.
I understand how to create the array and gather that information from the user as well as howto set a variable for "target", this is what im calling it. Those two parts are simple enough.
I am not fully understanding the calling of an array in a function as a pointer. i semi understand the use of a pointer and howto call a normal pointer in a function. i also understand that an array is nothing more then a "special" pointer with a set of consecutive address blocks for the size of the array.
My first user defined function is simple enough
Code:
ReadArray(int A[], int size){
int i;
printf("Please enter %d integer numbers separated by spaces:
", size);
for (i = 0; i < size; i++)
scanf("%d", &A[i]);
}
Sso nothing out of the ordinary there. that should be a standard for loop and use of scanf, sadly prof has not covered ssanf or any of the other options so i am stuck using scanf for now. maybe someday down the line in a other program or after this course ill get the chance to learn about better options for gathering data from the user.
I am confused as to my next function:
Code:
void SearchArray(int A[], int target, int size);
I've not written any code here yet as im not sure if i should call the A[], or *A for the first type of the function?
If i call *A do i then use something like this for my search:
Code:
for (*A = 0; *A < size; *A++)
if (*A < target) or use A[] insteadA?
Code:
for (i = 0; i < size; i++)
if (A[i] = target)

inputting a search array. I tried putting a binary search but I can't get it to work. everything else works up until I put the value I am searching for in the array, then it just crashes.
How it suppose to work: input 2 coordinates with a value each then it calculates the distance between them then it suppose to let user search the coordinates for a value and state if found which coordinate it is at.
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip> //for setprecision
#include <math.h>
[Code].....

I currently have a file which allows inputs to record different transistor types. I then have the task of accessing this structure, find a certain manufacturer ID, and print the information about this particular transistor.
My problem is accessing the array to search through.
Here is my code:
Code:
#include "stdio.h"
const int IDLEN=30; //All constant values defined
const int POLARITYLEN=3;
const int MAXSTOCKITEMS=10;
//First structure defined
struct TransistorRec {
[Code]......
The errors I am currently getting are on line 54 'expected primary-expression before "struct"' and on line 60 ' 'maunfacturersID' undeclared'

I am working on a program that uses a class I created called Student. I want to be able to add different students to a Binary Search Tree, and use the student's gpa (grade point average) to compare students with each other and place them in the correct location in the Tree.
Student class:
#ifndef STUDENT_H
#define STUDENT_H
#include <string>
#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
class Student{

We had to write a "selling program for computers, laptops and tablets", which I did but for the extra credit, we have to have those three points in the application and I have tried but how to do the "extra credit" part, which I really need.
1.) A loop to prompt the user if they would like to place another order
2.) At least one user-defined function
3.) An enumerated data type, array or struct (structure)
I did one of these three, it's a "DO WHILE" loop asking users if they want to make another order, it's right at the beginning of the code.
Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <iomanip>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
double desktop();//function prototype
double laptop();
double tablet();
[Code] ....

Is there a way to call a function whose name is defined in a file-stored-list?
In other words: The caller doesn't know in compile time the name of the function.
I'm not talking about polymorphism.
The problem is: I have a list of function names stored in a file, that may change every now and then, and I'd like to call them in the sequence they appear in that list.

I've written an Array class to create 1d,2d and 3d array and it works fine for every test : example of the constructor of the array class for 2d case:
Array::Array( int xSize, int ySize ) {
xSize_ = xSize;
ySize_ = ySize;
zSize_ = 1;
vec.resize(xSize*ySize);
}
It works fine , but when i need to use this constructor inside of other constructor, i get the "no matching function error" ,
part of my code:
class StaggeredGrid {
public:
StaggeredGrid ( int xSize1, int ySize1, real dx, real dy ) : p_ (2,2) {}

I was instructed to write a binary search function which would return true if an element, inputted by the user, was found in the array, and false if it was not. I'm not sure why, but my function always returns false. My code is as follows.
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <ctime>
using namespace std;
//binary search function
bool search (int array[], int item)
[Code] ....
Why my code does not fulfill it's purpose???

I am attempting to implement function pointers and I am having a bit of a problem.
See the code example below; what I want to be able to do is call a function pointer from another pointer.
I'll admit that I may not be explaining this 100% correct but I am trying to implement the code inside the main function below.
class MainObject;
class SecondaryObject;
class SecondaryObject {

How to return a message saying that the value searched for is not found. We had to pull the data in from a .dat, i won't let me attach it as a .dat so I attached it as .txt. I know my it's sloppy. I usually clean up what I can once it is working properly.

#include <time.h>

Write a program using user-defined function which is passed a string and that function should cycle the string.(Do not use any string related functions). E.g.
If the string is : Chetna then it should print as Chetna, hetnaC, etnaCh, tnaChe,naChet, aChetn
Ans.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
char swamp(char a[], int x) {
for(int k=0; k<=x; k++) {
char l= a[x]; a[x]= a[0]; char p=a[x-1]; a[x-1]=l;
for(int i=1; i<x-2; i++) {

I'm trying to call a function via a function pointer, and this function pointer is inside a structure. The structure is being referenced via a structure pointer.
Code:
position = hash->(*funcHash)(idNmbr);
The function will return an int, which is what position is a type of. When I compile this code,
I get the error: error: expected identifier before ( token.
Is my syntax wrong? I'm not sure what would be throwing this error.

STRING s1 = “FOOBAR”
Here STRING is a user defined class. how to assign a constant char array "FOOBAR" to string object? Copy constructor need to be same class type as parameter. and overloading assignment operator also need to be same class type. I think 'friend' can let pass another type of object rather than STRING to do operation on overloaded '=' operator. How could it be done if it is possible at all?

I'm completely new to pointers and have a homework assignment due where I'm supposed to create a user defined dynamic array for player scores. The only errors I'm experiencing is a C2109: subscript requires pointer type and only on the lines that use the int *score; variable (57, 62, 64, 69, 71, and 82). I've already tried adding = nullptr to the variable and that didn't work.
#include<iostream>
#include<string>
#include<iomanip>
using namespace std;
void players(string[], int[], int);
void average(int[], int);

Im currently working on a class assignment and the pseudo code containing the instructions that I need to complete list:
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
// CTOR: Point()
//
// DESCRIPTION
// Default constructor. Initializes the point to be at the origin (0, 0) and the color to black = (0, 0, 0).
//
// PSEUDOCODE
// Call Init() and pass 0, 0, 0, 0, and 0 as the parameters.
//--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My code for this is:
Point::Point(){
void Init(0, 0, 0, 0, 0);
}
The code I wrote for the function Init is here:
Point::Init(int mX, int mY, color mColor){
mX = 0;
mY = 0;
mColor = pInitColor;
}
My problem here is that whenever I try calling this function in the point class, I get an error next to void Init saying incomplete type is not allowed. Also visual studio is telling me that it expects a ')' after my first zero in that line.

So I have an issue with a homework assignment that I am coding. I am attempting to get a function to iterate through an array and search for a number that was stored in an array by the user. So far I can take the number, get the numbers displayed but in my menuChoice2 function, for some reason the program is not confirming whether or not the number is entered, and is only telling me that the number has not been found, instead of confirming that the number is in the array.
Here is my code thusfar:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdbool.h>
// Variables that are Globally declared
int menuChoice = 0;
int usernum[1000] = { ' ' };
[Code] .....
To be clear I am not getting any errors but something is telling me that the error is in the formatting of menuChoice2.

How to get this thing to work. All i need to do is ask user to input a name and then it brings out the line from the .txt file containing the information.
For example in my case I'm doing a member search function I'm required to ask user to input the name of the customer and then print out all the details (which consumes 1 text line in the .txt file)
Here is the code, This is the write to text file method (100% working)
Code:
cout << "Customer Name: ";
cin >> name;
// ...
ofstream myfile("customer.txt", ios::app);

Ive recently got into function pointers, i find that they can be quite handy for making your program very 'dynamic'.
However, the syntax is very confusing for what i want to do
This is what i want to do
I want to hold function pointers inside an array, but this array is dynamically allocated ( malloc, realloc, etc )
This is the current syntax ive come up with, but i dont think it is correct
void ( **drawFunc ) ( void*, SDL_Surface* );
