C :: Reading In Comma Separated Numbers From A Data File

Apr 18, 2013

I am attempting to read in a file that has 4128 sets of 21 numbers separated by commas and write it into an array. I now know that in order to use fseek, I have to make my array a character array, but I need my function to read in decimals (ex: 0.172635). I'm reading in

0.102598,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.307 793,0.000000,0.410391,0.102598,0.000000,0.102598,0 .102598,0.000000,0.000000,0.102598,0.102598,0.8207 83,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000

and keep getting numbers like 48 49 50.

Code:

void CSread(char filename[100], char array[22], char array2[22], unsigned int arraysize)
{
char genename[32];
double temp = 0;

FILE *CSfile;
CSfile = fopen(filename, "r");

C++ :: Remove Word From A Text File?

May 24, 2014

I have a C++ program that performs calculations on numbers in a text file. However, suppose we have additional words in the text file such as "Title". In this instance, the program will not calculate the numbers in the file because of the text.

How do we remove text from a file using the C++ program? e.g. if I wanted to specify the program to remove any instances of the word "Title", how would I do it?

C/C++ :: How To Parse Contents Of File To Remove Comments

Mar 12, 2015

I am working on a program where I am reading in a text file to be parsed to load data objects into their appropriate classes. I have a class to load in this file and to parse its contents. I am at the point where I would like to include the ability to have both C and C++ style comments in this text file. My current class has a constructor that takes in const std::string for its file name. Upon construction I have a while loop that calls a member function getNextLine() as long as this is true this loader class object then calls parseGui(). All of this works correctly so far. Within the function getNextLine() looks like this:

// ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
// getNextLine()
// Returns True If It Got A Line Of Text (Could Be Blank If It Is All Commented Out Or
// If It Truly Was A Blank Line). False Is Returned When There Is No More Data In The File
bool GuiLoader::getNextLine() {
if ( !_file.readLine( _strLine ) ) {
return false;

[Code] ....

As you can see this getNextLine() method reads in a single line of text and saves it into its member variable which is a std::string. It increments the line number, then a utility function trims out leading and ending white spaces. The next part is where this class calls a member function to remove comments. It is in here where I need to parse the string to look for comments either "//" C++ style line comments or "/* ... */" C style block comments that can span multiple lines. I have tried many different ways to go about doing this, and I am stuck on the C style comments. A note to consider is this: the way this code is designed is reading in a line of text from the file into a string variable and in doing so it is not logical for me to read in the complete file and do a pre-parse scan or analyzer.

This is what I have so far, however there are still cases that this code will fail on

// ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
// removeComments()
void GuiLoader::removeComments() {
const unsigned tokenLength = 1;
static std::string::size_type indexA;
static std::string::size_type indexB;
const std::string commentStartingToken( "/" );
const std::string blockCommentStartingQualifier( "*" );

[Code] .....

An example of where this code will fail is when it encounters a single '/' any where on a line of text as it goes into an infinite loop. I am not sure on how to go about skipping this lonely '/' and advanced the index to look for a possible next '/' that belongs to a '//' or a '/*'. I know that this is sort of trivial, but for some reason or another I am having writers block.

C++ :: Namespaces / Classes - Perform Operator Overload With Insertion Operator

Mar 22, 2013

I'm doing a refresher for C++ and have gotten to operator overloading. I'm trying to perform an operator overload with the insertion (<<) operator, but I have encountered a problem.

Here's my class [In a header file "Shinigami.h"]

#include<string>
namespace K{
class Quincy;
class Shinigami{
friend std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream&, const Shinigami&);

[Code] .....

If the operator function is a friend of the 'Shinigami' class, why doesn't it recognize any of it's private members? I need it to be in this file because I'm doing a bit of association with the 'Quincy' class.

I thought it was the namespace, but I included that.

C/C++ :: Comma Delimited Number From Array

Nov 24, 2014

I am trying to write a way to properly format numbers by adding "," to numbers. Ex:

1000000 -> 1,000,000
30000000000000 -> 30,000,000,000,000

In the usual case, its an easy problem. But it gets tricky in my case, since I am working with numbers up to 30 digits, unable to store them in any int, long, long long. Due to this obstacle, the user inputs a number and each digit is stored in my array individually.

I need these commas to print as I am cout the array. This means I only have array length to work with.

I want to use modulus, but I'm not sure how this would work. I have:

void prArray(int Array[], const int arrSize) {
int mod = arrSize % 3;
int remainingSize = arraySize;
int counter = 0;
for(int i=0; i <= arrSize; i++){
remainingSize--;

[Code] ....

Which outputs the first digits correctly, but leaves 4 digits at the end:
235423452345 -> 23,542,345,2345

Likewise
2354234523450 -> 235,423,452,3450

I am wondering about the constructor. I see there appears to be nothing inside of TinyGPS::TinyGPS() as far as parameters go and that that declaration is followed by a ":". First I'm wondering as to the meaning of the colon. As well with the variables defined after the ":" I see some "(0)" and I am wondering as well to the exact meaning of the "(0)". Are those variables being defined as parameters separated by ","?

C++ :: Call Text File In Input Overload Operator?

Nov 12, 2013

i am doing some practice problems and i can't seem to figure out how to do this. basically we have a students number of test scores, then the name followed by the scores they have in a text file. Then we have to make a class with a constructor, copy constructor, destructor, and overload the = operator and the input and output operator. Are we suppose to call the text file in the input overload operator?

Here is what i have so far.

This is my header file.

#ifndef STUDENTTESTSCORES_H
#define STUDENTTESTSCORES_H
#include <string>
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
class StudentTestScores{
private:
string studentName;

i am 100% sure the overloading the input is wrong

here is the implementation of the constructor copy constructor and desctructor

using namespace std;
StudentTestScores::StudentTestScores(string name = "", int numScores = 0)
{
studentName = name;
numTestScores = numScores;
