C++ :: Enter A String Up To 99 Characters - Extra Parameter In Call To Count

#include<conio.h>
#include<stdio.h>
void count();
void main() {
char c[100];
cout<<"Enter a string upto 99 characters(spaces included):"<<endl;

[Code] ....

The thing is, when I don't create a prototype of count and straightaway define it before void main() my program runs, but it gives error in this program that "extra parameter in call to count()" But what to do then?

C++ :: Passing Extra Parameter To Operator Function?

I have a class and I would like to be able to pass an extra parameter to the function that is executed.

BigInt operator / (BigInt N,BigInt D) {
...
}

is what I have now. but I would like to do something like this. so the default value for a is 10. and if the user does something like N/D (12) Then the value of a is 12.

BigInt operator / (BigInt N,BigInt D, int a=10) {

C++ :: Extra Parameter Passing To Overloaded Binary Operator Function

Jun 11, 2013

I have a class matrixType that has some overloaded operators (+, -, *, and <<). With a view to having clearly-delineated, perfectly-formatted, four-sided matrices, as shown below:

A = 1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
or
A + B = 1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

and NOT this jagged ones shown below:

A = 1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

or

A + B = 1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
,

I want a scheme in which the string literals (A, A+B, etc.) could be passed as parameters to the overloaded stream insertion (<<) operator function so that I could use the string’s length to determine how much offset from the display screen’s left to apply to each matrix’s row (by using the setw() function). However, I do know that the << operator is a binary operator, meaning the function cannot take more than two parameters: that is what compounds my problem!

C++ :: Setting Default Parameter Based On Another Parameter?

Jul 2, 2013

Here's my function definition

bool validateNumber(string& text, int min = 0, int max = -1, bool useMin = true,
bool getValid = true)

The code takes the string text, and checks the make sure that the input is valid and safe to convert and use as a number. However, sometimes there is not min, and sometimes there is no max. The lack of min is done by using the parameter useMin, while the lack of max is done by max < min.

My predicament is the following call:
validateNumber(text, -2);

Now, max will be used, even though I don't want it. Ideally, I would want to do something like... int max = (min - 1), ... but that doesn't work. I also can't check to see if the parameter hasn't been changed (that I know of), because the following call would make it look like it hasn't
validateNumber(text, -2, -1);

So the question is, is there a way to do what I want, without having to add in a bool useMax parameter? Or is this my only option? I don't want to do that for simplicity, but if I have to, I have to.

C :: Factorial Using Prime Numbers?

Feb 3, 2014

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
int find_next_prime(int num);
int is_prime(int num);
int main()

[Code]......

How would I go about counting the number of times a factorial has a specific prime number?

For example, 5! = (2^3)*(3^1)*(5^1), 6! = (2^4)*(3^2)*(5^1).

How would I begin to design my find_prime_count function in order to count how many times each occurs? My program is to read in a number between (2<=N<=100) from a text file and output the results exactly like above which I still have to figure out after, I'll assume I have to use fscanf.

C++ :: For Loop Multiplication - X Factorial

Oct 18, 2013

int main() {
int x;
int y=1;
for(x=1 ; x<=12 ; x++ , y=y*x ) {
cout<<y<<'
';
}
}

This code give x! ( x factorial).

whenever ,in x<=12 , we change the 12 to any number n where n>=1 and n<=12

the code works and give the (x factorial)

for example 12!=479001600

the problem begins with the number 13.

when we put 13 like this x<=13 or for(x=1 ; x<=13 ; x++ , y=y*x )

the compiler gives a wrong result : it gives 1932053504 which is wrong because the true result is 6227020800

I don't know why this isn't working. fact is a factorial function which I have tested and it works fine. But when I input, for example:

int main() {
cout<<expression(1,3)<<endl;

it comes up with an error.

C :: Program To Calculate Factorial Of Numbers - For Loop

I have been working on a program to calculate the factorial of numbers. Part of my code is copied and modified from the FAQ about validating numbers in user input.

I have encountered a problem with the for loop that I am using near the end of my code. No matter what I do, it seems that my loop only does the multiplication of b = a*(a-1) and then prints. For example, inputting 5 will result in a print of 20, but the factorial is 120.

Code:
int main(void) {
char buf[BUFSIZ];
char *p;
long int a;
long int b;
long int i;

C :: Function That Computes Factorial Result Of Certain Number

Aug 28, 2013

I just want to practice in the language so i wrote this simple function that computes the factorial result of a certain number. The problem is that for all numbers > 20, the results are wrong ( < 20 all good).

I already learned that normal "long" type in c is more like 32 bit int and not 64 bit like a long type in java. so I used here a "long long" type.

why am I getting strange results above the number 20? isn't 64 bit enough to hold those numbers?

Code:
long long factorial(int n);
int main() {
long long result = factorial(20);
printf("%lld",result);

[code] ...

for 21 i get: -4249290049419214848

where the right result shoud be: 51,090,942,171,709,440,000

C++ :: Extra Line While Reading From File

Nov 15, 2013

My file has these lines.I try to remove extra line in the end, in notepad/gedit, however, after saving it automatically adds up there.

one
two
three

Code:

void help::read_ref(const char* file_name){
std::ifstream file_handle;
file_handle.open(file_name);
std::string line,name;
getline(file_handle,line);
while(!file_handle.eof()){

[code]......

when I print size of map, it comes out to be an extra then what is should be.

std::map<std::String,std::string> ->is my map

on the contrary if I use Code: file_handle >> line; I get correct number of entries in map.

My doubt: getline, automatically finds and in last, it finds a , why it doesn't end the iteration?

I have faced this issue many number of times.

Code: line[0]=='>' I am making this check, then also, I get a null string as key in my map.

I have printed key with their index, using Code: map iterator .

C :: Add Little Extra To Switch Statement Assignment

Jun 12, 2013

I pretty much got the assignment done. All it asked for was that you make a C program that displays which manufacturer owned a disk drive based on the code entered. Pretty simple. Just enter 1, 2, 3, or 4 and get the associated manufacturer. Though I am trying to implement an error messege to it for any interger that isn't 1-4.

Code: #include <stdio.h>
int main()
{

[Code]...

o errors are given and it works fine as long as you enter 1-4, but when you enter any other didgit it just stops the program without any messeges.
