Visual C++ :: Error / M4 Failed With Exit Code 255

Dec 8, 2013

Basically, I'm moving a VC project from my Windows 7 build machine to a new build machine that's running Windows 8.1. One of the pre-build steps (for a particular project) runs a script which needs to call the M4 macro processor (which is installed on my C: drive). I've been pretty careful to set everything up the same on both machines (including my PATH) but when I try to build the project on my Windows 8 box, MSVC's IDE shows me this error output when running the script:-

m4 failed with exit code 255

C++ :: Program Not Working - Debug Exit Code 1073741510 (0xc000013a)

I'm not sure what I'm missing. It is supposed to input and display player's name and score, calculate the average score, and display the players who scored below average.

It simply doesn't work. All I get is a black screen. Debug spits out an exit code of 1073741510 (0xc000013a).

Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <iomanip>

C :: Function Of Sensor - Cannot Exit From While Statement

Aug 19, 2013

I am working on a project with rf2500 radio sensors and a state machine handles the whole fucntion of the sensor.. I have this while statement

Code:
while(state!=STATE_STATENINETYFIVE){
__bis_SR_register(LPM3_bits + GIE);
__no_operation();
}

which stop the sleep mode of the CPU every time the STATE_STATENINETYFIVE comes up. I want to make it like this

Code:
while((state!=STATE_ABRRECEIVE)||(state!=STATE_STATENINETYFIVE)){
__bis_SR_register(LPM3_bits + GIE);
__no_operation();
}

So if STATE_ABRRECEIVE or STATE_STATENINETYFIVE comes up exit the while too.

I read some previous post about and I thought to change the logical OR || with AND && but din't work for me... state is type of u_int8_t. Is it a logical error???

Visual C++ :: Exit From DLL Function When Error Is Encountered?

Oct 23, 2012

Say I have a dll that performs some mathematical parsing and calculations. The calling function is only a single C -linkage wrapper function in the dll. I can anticipate likely errors and program the dll methods to do several things when an anticipated error is encountered. (For now, let's not worry about unanticipated errors).

1 - send an error message to the user application using WM_COPYDATA
2 - throw an exception (assuming the calling app has used the try catch scenario)
3 - try to gracefully recover from the error within the dll and keep on going (jump to some safe place - but how ??)
4 - don't throw an exception from within the dll but halt the program (not very nice - the user won't know what happened)

Previous discussions on the matter have predominantly expressed the opinion that it is bad to throw exceptions from within a dll.

Long ago there was in use setjmp.h and something like

Code: if(setjmp(e_buf)) return -1;

But I believe this was only for old C applications - I'm not really sure. But at least someone back then recognized the need for getting back to a safe place in a process.

C++ :: How Does Clock Return Same Value Every 72 Minutes

Apr 19, 2014

I am reading up on the clock() function: URL....It states: "On a 32bit system where CLOCKS_PER_SEC equals 1000000 this function will return the same value approximately every 72 minutes."

How could this return the same value, if clock is the number of clock ticks elapsed since program execution. Wouldn't the number of clock ticks continue to grow, and as such, when we divide by 1000000, the return value should continue to grow. So how does this function return same value every 72 minutes?

C/C++ :: Converting Minutes To Hours

Oct 23, 2014

I am currently working on a lab for my intro to programming class and the lab is asking for a long distance call calculator. Based on the times that you start your rate will change. If the call starts from 00:00 to 07:59, Rate = $0.07. If the call starts from 08:00 to 18.59, Rate = $0.12. Lastly if the call starts from 19:00 to 23:59, your rate is $0.28.

Then on the output you must show the start time, end time, rate, and total cost of the call.

My confusion is on the end part of the code (the output).

I know you have to use the % operator to convert minutes to hours, but I don't completely understand it which is why I am here. How does the modulus do that? And how will it go over to the next hour if the call starts at 1:35 and ends after 30 minutes (2:05)?

Here is what I have so far.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
float callStart, minutes;
double cost;
char choice('Y');
string rate;

C++ :: How To Create Count Down Timer For 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Apr 7, 2014

I want to add a count down timer to my testing software 1hr and 30min

Its a 32bit console application, I want the countdown timer outputted above each question on the right side, timer only needs to output the time left at the top of each question so a live outputted timer is not important.

Questions are not random generated.

Also how to output "out of time" if the timer reaches 0 and for the test to end, I think branching is involved not too sure.

I already have, std::srand( std::time(0) ) ; at the start of the test to randomly generate the answer order.

C++ :: Calculating With Time - Restrict User To Input Minutes 60-99 For Every Hour

Oct 22, 2013

I have to write a program for class in which users will be inputting:

start time = startTime
number of minutes = callDuration

so first off, teacher wants us to input time as a floating point number such as 09.00

How do I validate the time so that users cant input i.e. 09.61 for every hour? In other words, so the user cant input minutes 60-99 for every hour.

then, when calculating:
endTime = startTime + callDuration

how would I make endTime display a correct time in such a situation: endTime = 09.45 + 00.30

so that it displays 10.15 not 09.75

C/C++ :: Design / Implement And Test A Class That Represents Time In Minutes And Seconds

Nov 29, 2014

Design, implement, and test a class that represents an amount of time in minutes and seconds. The class should provide a constructor that sets the time to a specified number of minutes and seconds. The default constructor should create an object for a time of zero minutes and zero seconds. The class should provide observers that return the minutes and the seconds separately, and an observer that returns the total time in seconds (minutes x 60 + seconds). Boolean comparison observers should be provided that test whether two times are equal, one time is greater than the other, or one time is less than the other. (You may use RelationType and function ComparedTo if you choose). A function should be provided that adds one time to another, and another function that subtracts one time from another. The class should not allow negative times (subtraction of more time than is currently stored should result in a time of 0:00). This class should be immutable.

C :: Function Return Code / Value?

Sep 27, 2014

I have a function that needs to return a "uint8_t" value. However before doing the processing I need to perform a test on the argument to check if it's between expected boundaries. Although this function works it gives (a logical) warning that not always a value is returned although expected. What is the normal way for functions like these where I normally should return e.g. -1 in case the test doesn't succeed and otherwise the uint8_t (t) value?

Code:
uint8_t myFunc(int a) {
if (a >= 0 && a <= 100) {
// Perform actions
uint8_t = ...
return t;
}
}

Another thing I find to use < cstdlib > library. But unfortunately it do works only for C. It works for C++.

C++ :: Identify End Of Function Code At Running Time

Apr 16, 2013

I want to implement some "debugger like" tool (very limited one, just identify at running time the current stack trace, and print messages from the user) on some code that the user wrote. what I get from the user is a function name (in the beginning of it's declaration), and when the user want to print some message he uses some print macro I should implement.

My target is printing the stack call, and all the messages that the user wrote, in the right place on the running place.

By what c++ feature can know on running time that a specific function code has ended??

Its easy to push a function to some vector when it called (since I get its name from the user), but when it ends and return to the function called it...
