Oct 15, 2014

I'm trying to move the File Pointer to the end of the file (check.txt) at line-13. But doesn't matter how many times I run the program out put always comes as

O/P:
Pos=0
Pos=0

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <ostream>
using namespace std;
int main () {
streampos size;
char * memblock;

C# :: Mapped Network Drive - Deleting Or Moving A File

Sep 16, 2014

Currently I'm trying to do something extremely basic: delete or move a file

I have a mapped network drive (Y) where I have a file I need to move from one folder to another

First was doing the obvious:

System.IO.File.Move("Y:TempFile.txt", "Y:Temp2File.txt");

Not much to go wrong here, right? As long as I have the correct permission to write in the folders and the folders exists, this would normally go smooth. But for some reason it only copies the file. The source file still exists, but it has successfully copied the file to the destination folder. No exceptions has been thrown or anything... but the file still exists in the source directory

I then changed the code to the following:

System.IO.File.Copy("Y:TempFile.txt", "Y:Temp2File.txt");
System.IO.File.Delete("Y:TempFile.txt");
Console.WriteLine("See mommy, no Exceptions");

As expected the file copies correctly, but the delete command is completely ignored. The file is not deleted, but the Console.WriteLine command is called

I'm running the application as the logged in user. The user has permission to delete the file. If I try from Windows Explorer, the file is correctly deleted. Unfortunately my application refuses to delete the file and even worse, it will not even throw an Exception.

C++ ::  Writing Pointer Contents Into File

Apr 15, 2014

I have a character pointer that points to 4000 bytes of valid data. I need to write these valid contents pointed to by this pointer into the file. I am looking for the most optimized way of doing this. I am using the below logic which seems trivial. Any better approach to accomplish the same?

/* length is the number of valid bytes of data */
void parse_contents(const char *data, int length) {
int j = 0;
char path[1024] = "/tmp/data.xml";
FILE *fp = NULL;
fp = fopen(path, "wb");

C++ :: RAM Disk And Pointer To Content In File

Mar 3, 2014

When we are using RAM DISK - the files are stored on the RAM. From what I understand (and saw many examples) in order to read data from file (the file which locate on the RAM) - I need to use the read function.

Is there a chance to get char* (or any pointer) to the content of the file without using the read function ?

If the file locate on the RAM, it seem that it is like I have a buffer on the RAM (like an array which was dynamic allocated) and in the case of a buffer on the ram -> we can use pointers to the data without reading all the data.

example:

class CDATA {
int nValue1;
int nValue2;
double dValue3;
double dValue4;
char achBuf[10];

C :: File Opened In Main And Passing Pointer To A Function

I am opening a file in main, passing that pointer to a function and checking the contents of that file with a regex before I pass it on to build a BST. I am getting the following compile errors, what is wrong. Here are the errors:

Code:

fileCheck.c: In function `fileCheck':

FILE *fp;

C++ :: Pointer-based Data Loading From A (text) File

Dec 4, 2013

I have two classes, productListType and buyerListType, that are each basically linked lists. To create the linked list for an object of productListType, I successfully wrote a non-class function createProductList to read the product data from a text file. The class definition for buyerListType has a data member productBoughtRecord that is of type productListType to aggregate the details of the products purchased by a particular buyer during transactions. I decided to make productBoughtRecord a pointer since the contents of this data member would wax and wane over the course of several transactions, depending on the amount and frequency of payments made by the buyer. I have provided a rough sketch of the class below:

class buyerListType
{
public:
setCustomerInfo( ....., productListType* p);
.
.
.
private:
productListType* productBoughtRecord;
.
.
};

I'm similarly trying to write a non-class function createBuyerList to load the record of customers from a text file. How do I determine what the value of the formal parameter p in member function setCustomerInfo is, in order to be able to set the data member productBoughtRecord? take into consideration that an object of class buyerListType would have multiple buyers with varying amounts of products purchased.

C/C++ :: Reading From File To Construct A Pointer Based Maze?

Nov 29, 2014

I'm trying to read a "pointer-based" maze .txt. The first letter in each row corresponds to the room letter...then the letters that follow are North node, East node, South node, and West node respectively. The asterisk indicates an empty room or not a valid option.

Here is what I have come up with, what is happening is after the file is parsed by read_maze it is calling my is_empty function indicating that there is no maze because it doesn't go into the else statement here.

I've attached a sample input file:

 maze.txt (130bytes)
Number of downloads: 19

We can't assume the rooms will be in order alphabetically A - Z, We are expecting a maximum of 12 rooms and there is a space between each letter or asterisk.

void Maze::read_maze(string FileName){

string line;
ifstream inStream;
inStream.open(FileName.c_str());
int test = inStream.peek();
int i = 0;
if (!(inStream.fail())){
while (!inStream.eof() && test != EOF){

C++ :: Passing A File Pointer To A Function Is Producing Undesired Output

Oct 27, 2013

I am working on a project and decided to try something simple before I start adding items. I am calling a function from main and that function has a file pointer.

Here is my main.cpp

Code: #include <cstdio>
#include <string>
#include <iostream>
#include "main.h"
extern FILE *fp;
using namespace std;
int main(int argc, char *argv[])

[code]....

Here is the function:

Code:
#include <string>
#include <cstdio>
#include <iostream>
#include "main.h"

[Code] ....

My test file consists of several characters and digits. Nothing special and I at this point in time do not have any type of formatting that needs to be adhered to. I am simply wanting to read the file character by character and print it out. When I run the program, I get this symbol:

Code: If I use a printf statement, such as:
Code: printf("%s
", nextChar);

I get a segmentation fault.

My main.h Code:

#ifndef MAIN_H
#define MAIN_H
void scanner(FILE *);
//char getChar(FILE *);
#endif and lastly my scanner.h Code: #ifndef SCANNER_H
#define SCANNER_H
FILE *fp;
#endif

C :: Function To Read A Text File - Incompatible Pointer Type

Nov 3, 2014

So for a project, my professor sent out two pages of code containing functions to read a text file (since we do not know how to write this on our own yet). I've got the code working on Orwell IDE and it gives me 2 warnings saying

"Passing argument 1 of 'readFromFile' from incompatible pointer type"

"Passing argument 2 of 'option2Print' makes integer from pointer without a cast"

The Orwell IDE seems to just bypass these warnings and compiles the code correctly. However, when I transferred my files over to my desktop using BloodShed (what the professor uses), instead of getting a warning I get an error and the code won't compile.

I assume it will not compile on his computer either since he uses the BloodShed IDE.

I don't know how to put the code directly into the text neatly, so a attached a .zip file with my code. The "storms.txt" file is also included. (the file that will be read).

And then I define them in separated .cpp files, each .cpp file include the header, but I got multiple definition error, why?

Even the int main() function, which only decalred and defined once got this error, why?

Visual C++ :: CFileDialog Saves File In Project File - Not Specified File

Apr 12, 2013

I'm very new to MFC & VisualC++. I'm using MSVS2010 Pro. I am trying to write/debug a simple form that saves and restores the content of some edit controls. It seems to work as expected, except the file saves only to the Project Folder, regardless of where I browse and select to save the file.

Code:
void CMFC_FileDialogDlg::OnBnClickedbtnsave() {
this->UpdateData();
CFile f;
//Kinda Correct, Works but still saves in Project Folder
BOOL b_OpenFileDialog = FALSE;//this doesn't act as bool in CFileDialog?

[Code] ....

My only experience is a little simple VB programming in Excel, so any specific examples??? Also, rules seem to change from version to version? I have to "update" a number of undocumented programs.
