Visual C++ :: Notification Supposed To Be Sent Out During Forced Sleep In XP?
Oct 2, 2012I run the following API to put Windows XP SP3 into sleep (or standby mode) from a worker thread:

So when SetSuspendState is called with request for a 'forced' sleep mode, the PBT_APMSUSPEND notification is never broadcast. Only if I set forced parameter to FALSE I receive it.
PBT_APMRESUMEAUTOMATIC is received in either case.
PBT_APMSUSPEND is always received when run on Windows Vista/7.
Visual C++ :: Can Overlapped Buttons Both Receive Notification
Oct 17, 2013I have multiple bitmap buttons of non-square shape. Because of their odd shape I can overlap them and they will still look good on screen, which is what I want - that certain layout.
The problem is that because underlying button in reality is square (which I am subclassing), the bitmap of one button may overlay with the non-bitmap area of the other button (in the underlying square). This means that 2nd bitmap button will not receive notification because the press is registered with top level window only.
Is there a way that both windows can receive the notification and check if they are in the hot spot, they will respond? I know this is against windows design.

Sep 6, 2013I created a MFC dialog using CDHtmlDialog and added a HTML page with many controls and one of them is a IMAGE tag. I got a default image loaded from the hard drive displayed in the HTML page. Up to this part, everything works fine.
Now what i want to do is, dynamically change the image based on the user click on one of the HTML buttons. I don't want this image source to be hard coded in the HTML nor the image source send from the MFC app.
What i want is for the MFC app to send the image data to the HTML in some (binary) format and then the page to display the image.
The possible option i was thinking of was to read the image file which is already in my hard drive as a binary file and send the binary data across to the HTML as a memory buffer, and then use JavaScript to decrypt this binary data and display the image.
Basically what i want is for the HTML page to display a image from the memory. how to do this?

Sep 6, 2013I am writing an MFC app in Visual Studio 2012 that will open a JPG file as binary and read all the contents to a CString.
I am able to read it to a std::Vector, but that doesn't work much as i need to pass all the binary content as a MFC CString to another function.

Let me explain the problem a little more deeper.
I am trying to call a JavaScript (JS) function in a HTML page and then want to pass the binary date. The C++ function that calls the JS is given below.

The 1st argument is the JS Function Name and 2nd is the one to pass the Binary Data. 1st argument works fine as i am able to call the JS fucntion called "LoadImage" without any problem. Problem is with 2nd argument that's supposed to take the Binary data of the JPG file.
If i try to pass a std::Vector or std::string then it will give me an error.
But it's happy if i pass CString. But then with CString there's a problem with NULL characters.
Actually my plan is to pass the binary of a JPG to a JS function and let it display the JPG in the HTML page.
Can i typecast a Vector or std::string to a CComVariant*?
Visual C++ :: Internet Explorer Displays Blank Page When Opening Local File While Screen Is Off?
Apr 28, 2015I'm making a small MFC module that should generate a report (formatted using HTML) and then display it for a user on schedule at 8:30 AM every day. Pretty straightforward stuff.
I compose my report and then save it as a local HTML file in the CSIDL_APPDATA folder. I then use the following calls to display it using the default web browser (Internet Explorer in this case):

This module is run on schedule from the Task Scheduler. (The task is set up to run when a user is logged on, which is all the time for that PC. It is never turned off, put to sleep, etc. That computer has only one user that is never logged off either.)
This works perfectly fine when I test it by setting the task a minute or so in the future. But when the actual task is supposed to run at 8:30 AM, when the user wakes the screen all they see is a blank Internet Explorer page. (Note that if someone refreshes that page by hitting F5, only then my report is shown on the screen.)
So I started looking into it:
1) I checked that the file is properly saved (before calling ShellExecute) by reading it back and by comparing it with the original HTML markup that I saved earlier. It's all correct there.
2) I then checked the power saving options. That computer is set up to show screensaver after 5 minutes and to turn off screen after 25 minutes.
3) The web browser that causes this issue is IE version 11, with the latest updates installed. The operating system is Windows 7 Professional.
And why is IE showing a blank page only when computer is running unattended?

The hour glass initially appears, than after a few seconds, the dialog title bar indicates 'not responding'.
This is misleading to users as it suggests the application has ceased to function when, in fact, it's working just fine. I would like very much to eliminate this 'not responding' message but havn't a clue how to do it. Have any of you dealt with this problem, if so, how?

1) type a string message into a GUI control (or some other input that can be accessed by the resource).
2) run a resource script that puts the message through a hash function (or a custom hash function) and outputs the hash string.
3) have a reverse function available in order to decrypt the message in an input fashion just like step #1.
what open-source resource might be the best for this? Right now I am imagining typing a message into a text file, saving the file to a hard drive location, running a script on it replacing the old file with a new file that just has a hash string in it, then using that hash string for the encoded message.

Oct 11, 2013I'm trying to write a program that passes Windows messages back and forth from another program that controls a laboratory instrument. I was able to write a program that successfully passes instructions, as evidenced by the instrument doing what I tell it. However, I am having trouble getting a return status from the instrument. The manual instructs the following:

Either a completion message or return data is returned. Remote commands ReturnStatus, ReturnTiming, and ReturnData return data. In either case, data is received through an asynchronous windows message inside Win32 COPYDATASTRUCT type data packet.For example, a typical OnCopyData window callback is shown below, where the string data retrieved is finally stored into a Microsoft CString object. Note the use of variable replyTag, discussed above, which is used to isolate the correct windows message returned.

I can't tell if my problem is in generating the replyTag, getting the HWND to my own console window, or the actual receiving part of the code.
When setting the replyTag, the manual instructs: UINT replyTag = RegisterWindowMessage(“SOFTMaxProReplyMsg”);. However, I have to put an "L" in front of the string or I get a data type error (can't convert const char* to LPCWSTR).
When setting a HWND for myself, the manual instructs: HWND MyWnd = GetSafeHwnd().
That produces an error because GetSafeHwnd is a function of the Cwnd class, and I don't have a Cwnd. I have replaced it with HWND MyWnd = GetConsoleWindow();
When listening for the reply message, the manual instructs what I quoted above. However, I again don't have a Cwnd. I therefore simply used

The above if statement always evaluates false, and the cd.lpdata contains the message that I had sent out instead of a reply message. How to get a reply using my console application. Here is the full code of my function:

Oct 2, 2014I've created a new dialog in my MFC dialog based application. the new dialog contains 5 control buttons. The following happens and I don't understand why?
1. click on buttonX. (result ok, OnBnClicked message is sent)
2. click on on any place of the application, but not on the dialog.(removing focus from dialog)
3. click again on buttonX (FAILED, OnBnClicked message is NOT sent). but if instead I click on any other button in the dialog (result ok, OnBnClicked message is sent).
And when I do:
1. ...
2. ...
3. click on the dialog area just to set focus on the dialog again
4. click again on buttonX. (result ok, OnBnClicked message is sent)
**I need to do step 3 only if I want to click again on the buttonX! why?? I think it related to SetFocus() but I m not sure how.
I've tried different style like, tool windows, overlapped, popup. it happens in all the cases.

C++ :: Open Program Error Notification
Mar 23, 2013I've almost finished a Terminal/Command Prompt Program that can do most of the things a Microsoft or Linux Terminal can do - but I have a problem. I've got it to open programs fine, and I can also open their browser to the download page if they don't have it, but I need my program to know if there isn't the software so a bit like command prompt where it says 'The system cannot find the file test.txt.' and then it'll take them to the website if they like.
