C++ :: Calling Constructor From Constructor Set Pointer To Null
Jan 25, 2014
VS 2012 / Windows 7 64 bit
class
class myclass {
public:
myclass(){/*stuff here*/}
myclass(int* p) {MyPointer = p; myclass()}
[Code] ....
it works until the myclass(int* p) calls myclass()
then the MyPointer will become CCCCCCCC (NULL value)!
is there a way to stop the second constructor from resetting the pointer value to null?

For my default constructor I need to set an array of strings to null and the size variable to 0. Here is my code for that
DynamicStringArray::DynamicStringArray() {
*DynamicArray[]=NULL;
size=0;
}
When I try and compile it I get an "expected primary expression before ']' token" error.

I have a class that extends another class, and I want multiple constructors in the child class, but the child constructor needs to call the parent constructor. This is what I have
In the child class:
ChildClass::ChildClass() {
ChildClass(1);
}
ChildClass::ChildClass(int i)
: ParentClass(i) {
// do stuff
}
In the parent class:
ParentClass::ParentClass(int i) {
// do stuff
}
In my main program:
ChildClass child1;
// do stuff with child1
// breaks
ChildClass child2(1);
// do stuff with child2
// works fine
Using the default constructor breaks my program at runtime, but using the one with a parameter works fine. The default constructor calls the other with the same thing as the main part in the program, so I would think this should make no difference, but obviously that isn't the case.

// Program to calculate fine using class.
#include<iostream.h>
#include<conio.h>
#include<stdio.h>
#include<string.h>
class library {
long bookid;
char bookname[25];
[Code] ....
In the above program, how do I call the diff. constructors in main?

I would like to avoid throwing things in constructors as much as possible.
Is this good design to have a static class method that checks arguments the caller will give to the constructor. The documentation of the class will say, thou shall call this method to validate thine arguments before calling the constructor, or else segfault may befall thoust.

I've written an Array class to create 1d,2d and 3d array and it works fine for every test : example of the constructor of the array class for 2d case:
Array::Array( int xSize, int ySize ) {
xSize_ = xSize;
ySize_ = ySize;
zSize_ = 1;
vec.resize(xSize*ySize);
}
It works fine , but when i need to use this constructor inside of other constructor, i get the "no matching function error" ,
part of my code:
class StaggeredGrid {
public:
StaggeredGrid ( int xSize1, int ySize1, real dx, real dy ) : p_ (2,2) {}

i am writing this bank accounts program using structures. i haven't implemented the function before that i want to check if the data is being read and printed. When i build and run the program in visual studio it gives me the following error. "No constructor could take the source type, or constructor overload resolution was ambiguous". Now whats wrong in this program?
/* Bank Accounts Program */

#include <string>
#include <fstream>
#include <cstdlib>//needed to use system() function
using namespace std;
const int MAX_NUM = 50;

If I have an array of some class, and that class has const members, is there some way I can call a custom constructor on elements of the array?
I can't seem to reinitialize an element in foos in the example below. A thread on stack overflow mentioned the copy constructor show allow it, but I get "no match for call to '(Foo) (Foo&)'" when I try it.
Code:
class Foo {
public:
Foo();
Foo(int x, int y);
[Code] .....

I want to copy over values from x to y, and its not possible as i cant use "y" as a index in my pointer array.
Code:
CellularPhoneStock::CellularPhoneStock(CellularPhoneStock &origObj){
this->phonez[nrOfPhones]->setColour = origObj.getColour();
/*this->model = origObj.model;
this->nrOfType = origObj.nrOfType;
this->price = origObj.price;*/
nrOfPhones++;
}
My questions is, how can I use origObj and phonez combined to use the function getColour() ?
Btw, phones = CellularPhone * phonez[30];

I have a program that has a base class 'control' and there are 2 dervied classes 'button' and 'textbox'. How do i make a constructor in the 'button' or 'textbox' that initializes a pointer of the data type 'control' to point to the object that invokes the constructor. the code should look like this
class control {
//data
} class button:public control {
buton() {
//code for the constructor
}
}
actually i have an array of pointers of the type 'control' and as soon as any instance of a control like button or textbox is created the constructor should make an element of the array to point to the instance

I have little problem which causing memory leaks.
Parent > Multiple Child(Parent parent) > Child destructor deleting parent => next Child destructor crash
Example code: without using:
class Parent {
public:
Parent() {
for(int i = 0; i < x; ++i) {
for(int j = 0; j < y; ++j)
childs[i][j] = new Child(this);
[Code] ....
If you read code, on Parent destructor i = 0 & j = 1 its going crash.
Parent will be deleted aswell, but it give me assert: _block_type_is_valid(phead- nblockuse)

Is this example correct? This example from a book
Constructor of the Base Class
Person::Person(char* n="", char* nat="U.S.A", int s=1)
{
name = n;
nationality = nat;
sex = s;
}
Constructor of the Derived Class (inherited from the base class)
Student(char* n, int s=0, char* i=""):
Person(n, s)
Why the initialized list of the base class constructor doesn't match the initialized list of the derived class constructor? I know this book is a little bit old, I'm not sure if this wrong in VC++ 2010?

to initialize this object? Why C++ FAQ says no? Here is my code,
Code:
class A

public:
A(int x, char c);
A(int x);

I don't have any trouble to call the constructor A(int x, char c) from another constructor A(int x).

First I wrote a Binary-tree class to draw a binary tree on the window. The nodes were small circles. Then I become wanted to change the shape of the nodes from circles to triangles by another class, Binary-tree-derived which is derived from Binary-tree class. I wrote the below code to do the job but I get two errors about constructors. First, code:
/* The binary-tree class, one of the topics that has been said in Programming Principles and Practice using C++ book by Biarne Stroustrup.
This code is written by R Abbasi (s.rabbasi@yahoo.com) */
#include <Simple_window.h>
[Code].....
Errors are:

Would it be caused by some cyclic dependencies? How do I go about resolving it?

I am attempting to implement function pointers and I am having a bit of a problem.
See the code example below; what I want to be able to do is call a function pointer from another pointer.
I'll admit that I may not be explaining this 100% correct but I am trying to implement the code inside the main function below.
class MainObject;
class SecondaryObject;

I am making a tictactoe program that requires me to have a 3 by 3 two dimensional array of integers, in which the constructor should initialize the empty board to all zeroes. The program complies, but it keeps outputting garbage values and i'm not entirely sure why, My print function isn't complete yet, since I want to print out the array in a tic tac toe format, but i'm more concerned with why it's printing garbage values, here is my code:
Code:
// header file
#include <iostream>
#include <array>

I really confused with constructor (default constructor and constructor with parameters)
I coded this problem
and I worked almost, but I stock in constructor
Code:
class Tier {
public:
enum TIER_MAKE
[Code] ....
This is tier class and I have to finish constructor in class car (for simple, I skip detail code) -red things are the parts from class Tier
Code: Car()
: make(NULL), passengers(0), fuelcap(0.0), efficiency(0.0), tier(Tier::nexen)
{ }
[Code] ....
And someone said default constructor part has to be this
Code:
car( Tier::TIER_MAKE p_tiermaker = Tier::nexen )
//after i skip
but default constructor should be no parameter...? isn't it?

How do you write a default constructor?I need to use a default constructor that will initialize the data members:
- salesPerson to “Unknown”
- noOfWeek to 13
- amount to point to an array of thirteen 0.00s.
This is my weeklysales class
class WeeklySales {
char* salesPerson;
double* amount; // Pointer to an array
int noOfWeek; // Size of the array
};
Here's my attempted code:
//default constructor
WeeklySales (){
salesPerson="Unknown";
noOfWeek = 13;
amount = 0.00;
}

The following are the cases when copy constructor is called.
1)When instantiating one object and initializing it with values from another object.
2)When passing an object by value.
3)When an object is returned from a function by value.
I don't understand #2 How can and object be passed by value? when I think of passing object I think of passing by address or reference. explain
I don't understand #3 how can a function returned object by value I think of again passing by address or reference.

copy constructor. I'm not really understanding them. I have a base class called Vehicle and a derived class called Car.
class Vehicle
{
private:
int age;
[Code].....
I'm trying to test the new attributes and behavior of car but I think its not working because of the copy constructor. Its just not clicking. I also forgot that race car status is supposed to return yes or no, am I defining that right?

A compiler auto created default constructor is called a synthesized default constructor. It will initialize the built-in members to 0 or not depends on where the class object is defined? if I define a class
class point{
public:
double x, y;
};
if I define point point1; in global scope then point1.x and point1.y will be initialized to 0, if I define point point2; in a local scope, then its x and y won't be initialized? If it is like this, then I believe if there are built-in type members in a class, then the synthesized default constructor is almost useless!
