I was wondering what the best way was to access data outside the function it was created in. I have the user input a data in a custom namespace function, and now im trying to access all those data points in a different function.
Basically, I've got one object which has to access private data in another object... and can't.
Here's the specifics: I'm writing a little war game program where players deploy units (soldiers, tanks, planes, etc.) onto a gameboard. Players and Units are modeled as objects:
Code: class GameUnit { public: string GetName() {return Name;} protected: string Name; }; class Player {
[Code] ....
Here's the problem: In the above code, Player's ListUnits() function doesn't work because Player can't access GameUnit's GetName() function.
Specifically, here's the compiler's error message:
Code: In file included from Main.cpp:18: Player.h: In member function 'void Player::ListUnits()': Player.h:47: error: 'GetName' undeclared (first use this function) Player.h:47: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in.)
I've tested enough to realize that the problem is the GameUnit::GetName() function is a public function within the GameUnit object. Why can't a Player call this function? Making both friend classes of each other doesn't work.
I've got a Dev Express hierarchical grid and I need to which row is in focus in the level that's in focus. In the code below I need to replace "gridControl1.FocusedView.GetRow(0)" with "gridControl1.FocusedView.GetRow(x)" where x is the row number in the focused row but I can't find a property for it.
I have a header file that declares some fields as private, I then have a class that I need to compare two of the objects' information for equality but neither of them are the calling objects. I cannot alter the header file. How would I go about comparing private data fields? I will enter a brief bit of code for clarity.
Code: // Header File // stuff.h
class stuff { private: int* arr[20]; int size; }; bool equal (const stuff& a, const stuff& b);
I am parsing a binary data file by casting a buffer to a struct. It seems to work really well apart from this one double which is always being accessed two bytes off, despite being in the correct place.
If I attempt to print GROSS using printf("%f", row->GROSS) I get 0.0000. However, if I change the type of GROSS to char[8] and then use the following code, I am presented with the correct number...
Code:
typedef struct example { double d; }
example; example *blah = (example*)row->GROSS; printf("%f", blah->d);
The problem occurs in here, I get access violations, is there a way to this while keeping Display const or is this code valid and my problem is somewhere else and not being caught in the debugger? I tried to make the return types const - but that didn't work .....
//Getters need const twice for this to work? const char* Player::GetName() const {return m_name;} const int Player::GetGrade() const {return m_grade;} const double Player::GetGPA() const {return m_gpa;}
I currently have a file which allows inputs to record different transistor types. I then have the task of accessing this structure, find a certain manufacturer ID, and print the information about this particular transistor.
My problem is accessing the array to search through.
Here is my code:
Code: #include "stdio.h" const int IDLEN=30; //All constant values defined const int POLARITYLEN=3; const int MAXSTOCKITEMS=10; //First structure defined struct TransistorRec {
[Code]......
The errors I am currently getting are on line 54 'expected primary-expression before "struct"' and on line 60 ' 'maunfacturersID' undeclared'
I am modifying a set of static variables inside of the class's member function. The static variables are private. An example of what I'm doing is as below,
utilities.h ----------- class utilities { private: static int num_nodes;
public: void parse_details(char* );
[Code] ....
I get a compilation error in the function void utilities::parse_details(char* filename)
which says: undefined reference to `utilities::num_nodes'
I've got code in an existing more or less big library (*.c and *.h) and I want to get the output away from this library and have it in my gui. So the problem is, that in the library are many "printf" or even "cout".
Now I dont want to directly redirect the whole output, I want to get the strings and other data to my routine, which itself works this up and send it to the gui.
It is no problem to change the code in the library.
My Problem is in logic: how have I to implement it?! The library knows nothing from the routine in my gui-program.
I have a function, which has to return some int data. In that function there are multiple return statements. There is also possibility that function may return in some cases. Will this result in undefined behavior???
I have the following map: myMap<string,vector<int>>. I now want to look through my map to see if a key exists and if it does, retrieve one of the int values from within that vector. What would be the best way to do this? Right now I have the following:
What would be the best way to look for a key and get one of the int values from its vector value? Right now I'm doing something like this:
[code] map<string,vector<unsigned int>>::iterator it; it = wordMap.find(someWord); if(it == wordMap.end){ cout << "No matching entry"; } else{ // this is where I'd want to access the value (the vector) of the map }
Ive used a similar approach to extract data from a txt file before, however now it seems to crash when i get to the load, below is the code with a NOTE next to where it crashes. This is homework so no code but just information on why it was working for one dataset but not his new one.
/* The purpose of this program is to read in data and sort with selection and insertion sort. It will read data from file and write to a new file the sorted data */ #include <iostream> #include <fstream> using namespace std; bool openFile(ifstream&);
I am new to C++ ... My question is if I were to pass some data or values from the main() function through a void function (which main purpose is to display the data in a certain manner); how should one go about doing so?
For instance:
Code: // example.cpp -- poorly written, just trying to learn #include <iostream> void format() { using namespace std; cout << "Time: " << min << hrs << endl;
[Code] .....
Obviously this is really poorly written, and confusing for the user. My main goal is to learn how to pass through values to a void function.
Also a bit off-topic, but is there a downside to place "using namespace std;" outside a function say if out of 100 functions only 10 of them use it? Would it make the program slower/unstable in any way or is this something one could do without any downsides?
Here is the link for my program, I want to access the average value which is located in grade.c (calculate_grade) class through driver.c (main function) but I don't know how to make "average" visible
I came across the below code snippet in a project and was not sure how value of variable "response" is computed. Here as we can see, pic_data holds two one dimensional arrays but "response" access both the single dimensional array as two dimensional array.
I've been attempting to create a game with curses and I keep running into the problem of scope. I want to change or use variables of a different class in a different header file. But I don't know if I should use pointers, references or neither. Should I be programming in a manner that doesn't make it necessary to use variables outside of their class?
I'm currently trying to access a variable contained within a base object from another completely different object and I continually get error messages. I'll attempt to put up the important code since it's contained within fairly large classes. From the Base .cpp file. ObjectPosition:
This is the initialization function for the BaseObject. All objects are inheriting these variables which are Protected within the ObjectPosition class.Then they are initialized within the Pig class thus wise:
I have a Visual C++ solution file that contains 3 projects. i want to access the variables declared in a function in a project from a function in another project. Function declarations are in .h file and expansion in .cpp files. Can i use friend class or any other suitable method.
How do i access the private array? I tried this and it's not working. Want i want to do is create class object in main and pass the string to constructor, and set m_make, m_model to that string. Then call the member function to output that.
const int BUFLEN = 256; // class declaration class CVehicle {
