C++ :: When Compiler Do Template Instantiation

May 2, 2014

As we know in the compilation stage, the compiler will instantiate a concrete type for a template, for example:

template<class T> void test(T m ) {
cout << m << endl;
}
int main() {
int kl = 0;
test<int>(kl);
}

In the main function, the compiler will try to have a int entry. Also we know that in the compilation stage, generally we have several steps: lexical analysis, syntax analysis, grammer analysis and intermediate language(IR).

So my question is: In which step is the instantiation done? Before IR or after IR?

C# :: Instantiation Of Literal Strings?

Apr 5, 2012

I have a huge xml file from which the key and value attributes are selected among other things.

Code:
foreach (
XmlNode node in
configProductCode.SelectNodes("/configuration/appSettings/add"))
{
ConfigProductCode cpc = new ConfigProductCode();

XmlAttribute keyAttr = node.Attributes["key"];
XmlAttribute valAttr = node.Attributes["value"];
// etc
}

How does C# handle the instantiation of literal strings? does it make a new object with allocating heap memory on every iteration or just once?

C++ :: Partial Template Specialization With Template Class

May 27, 2013

I have a generic template class with another template in one of its types. Now I want to specialize one of its methods for a particular (template) class, which leads to a compile error, however.

Here is the example:

#include <stdio.h>
template<typename Type>
class Obj1 {
public:
void ID() { printf("Object 1, size = %zu

[Code] .....

GCC ends with:
:35:27: error: type/value mismatch at argument 2 in template parameter list for ‘template<class Type, template<class> class O> class Foo’
:35:27: error: expected a class template, got ‘Obj2<Type>’

What is wrong with the specialization? Can it even be achieved and how (if so)?

What have I messed up with the syntax?

C++ ::  Writing A Function Template With Template Arguments?

Mar 14, 2014

I have a function:

template<class Iterator, class T>
void a(Iterator, Iterator, const T&);

and I want to be able to simplify calls to 'a' with calls like

a(someIteratableContainer);

instead of having to call:

a(someIteratableContainer.begin(), someIteratableContainer.end(), valueOfTheContainersElementType);

I also want to be able to generalize the function to handle any of the standard iteratable contains: array, vector, deque, whatever.

I was under the impression I could write:

template<template<class T> class U> a(U<T>& container) {
a(container.begin(), container.end(), g(T()));
}

where 'g()' returns an object of the element type. However, the compiler is claiming, no matter how I write a call to the overload, the original template is selected and/or the overload is invalid, depending on the various ways I attempt to write said overload.

C++ :: Use External Template With Template Specialization?

Nov 17, 2013

[URL]

#include <iostream>
struct Outer {
template<typename T>
void go() {
std::cout << Test<T>::f() << std::endl;

[Code] .....

I have tried several variants on this code to no avail. Outer is in a header, along with the extern template statements, and the specializations after main are in their own cpp file. Main is in a different cpp file.

What do have to do to make this work? I cannot bring the definitions of f() into the header, and they will be different for different template parameters. Ideally, I want Test to remain a private member of Outer, though this can change if it's the only option.

C++ :: Passing Same Template Value To Two Different Template Functions

Dec 11, 2014

I have been trying to get a hang on templates. I have the two following functions that that could be consolidated in a single template function:

void Attractor::updateFamilies(FamiliesController *_tmp, int _counter){

center.x = ofGetWidth()/2;
center.y = ofGetHeight()/3;
attractorCounter = _counter;
if(attractorCounter == 1){

[Code] .....

NotesController and FamiliesController have the same parent. The thing that I'm trying to grasp with templates is that is could something like:

template<class TYPE>
void Attractor::updateData(TYPE* *_tmp, int _counter){
center.x = ofGetWidth()/2;
center.y = ofGetHeight()/3;
attractorCounter = _counter;

[Code] ....

And then have another template function declaration for all the attractor functions where I pass the same template value as in the first one.

As you can see, I'm calling another functions inside called attractors(_tmp). I know that one way around it could be to get rid of that function and just do all the logic inside of each if statement. Is there any way to pass the same template function parameter within a template function parameter?

C++ :: Template Class With Template Members

PHP Code:

class A {

    X* bar();
    //others are not related to X
};

I would like to get rid of

PHP Code: template<class X>

For class level but still use it for members. Like this

PHP Code:
class A {
  X m_x;
public:
    template<class X>
    X* foo();
    template<class X>
    X* bar();
    //others are not related to X
};

However, I am still stuck at

PHP Code: X m_x;

[code].....

What the output is:

Please enter a string of text: Hello World
You entered: Hello
Process returned 0 (0x0) execution time : 4.735 s
Press any key to continue.

Anyway I don't know why it removes what I typed after the space I put in between Hello and World.

C++ :: Class Not Seen By Compiler?

Sep 18, 2014

I have an issue. VS 2013 isn't recognizing objects that I've declared when I use class functions.I'm getting this error: "Line 14 and 15: Error C2228: left of '.asciiToFpc6' must have class/struct/union"...Here's the relevant code:

Source.cpp

#include <cstdlib>
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
#include "fpc6.h"

[code].....

Additionally VS apparently doesn't like my bitwise operators in my class functions and doesn't think they're doing anything. It gives "warning C4552: ['|', '<<', '>>', '&'] : operator has no effect; expected operator with side-effect" for all of them, but it seems to me the code should work fine and actually accomplish things....

C++ :: Compiler Not Recognizing Numbers

Sep 8, 2013

I'm working on this homework assignment where the program takes in the user's height in inches, weight in pounds, and age, then calculates their hat size, jacket size and waist size. The formulas for these are as follows:

Hat: (weight/height) x 2.9

Jacket: (height x weight)/288 then adjusted by adding 1/8 an inch for every 10 years over the age of 30 (The adjustment only takes place after a full 10 years, so there is no adjustment for 30-39, but there is for 40)

Waist: (weight/5.7) then adjusted by adding 1/10 of an inch for each 2 years over the age of 28 (the adjustment only takes place after a full 2 years, so no adjustment for 29, but there is for 30, etc)

I'm supposed to utilize functions for each of the three formulas.

There's a couple things I can't figure out.

1. Why won't the compiler recognize 2.9 and 5.7 as numbers?

2. How do I adjust the calculation for the jacket and waist based on age?

Here's what I've got so far:

#include <cstdlib>
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
double hatSize(int weight, int height);
double jacketSize(int weight, int height, int age);
double waistSize(int weight, int height, int age);

[code]....

C++ :: Check If Compiler Has 11 Enabled?

I have a library and it has converters between std strings and the internal string type. I current have preprocessor surrounding the converters for u8string, u16string, and u32strings, but it requires the end user flip the switch manually. It would be nice if I could know at compile time without being told whether or not those types exist.

C++ :: Compiler Error C2664 And C2228

Header file Code:

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <iomanip>
using namespace std;

[Code].......

The file generates the second error, C2228, at lines 37-41 and 43. Basically where I tried using the second created object. Error message is "left of '.setFirstName' must have class/struct/union"
