C++ :: Processing Multiple Files From Single Directory?

Feb 21, 2012

I've tried to form together the following code so that I can process multiple files from one user specified directory. However, when I run the program it works great for the first file, but all other files are blank. The problem starts on the following line:

while(FileIn.good())

//---------------------------------------------------
#include <fstream>
#include <iostream>
#include <dirent.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>
using namespace std;
struct dirent *dirp;

C :: Processing Outputs Of Multiple Inputs

Nov 26, 2013

It's not something trivial but I would like to know the best way to process multiple outputs, for example:

Input
First line of input will contain a number T = number of test cases. Following lines will contain a string each.

Output
For each string, print on a single line, "UNIQUE" - if the characters are all unique, else print "NOT UNIQUE"

Sample Input
3
DELHI
london
#include<iostream>

Sample Output
UNIQUE
NOT UNIQUE
NOT UNIQUE

So how can I accomplish outputs like that? My code so far is:

Code:
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
int inputs, count=0;
char str[100];
char *ptr;
scanf("%d",&inputs);

[Code] ....

But the above will obviously print the output after each input, so I want to know how can I achieve the result given in the problem. Also another thing I want to know is, I am using an array of 100 char, which it can hold a string up to 100 characters, but what do I have to do if I want to handle string with no limit? Just declaring char *str is no good, so what to do?

C++ :: Processing Large Files - Getting A Specific Line

Jul 5, 2012

I am reading in some large files to process. The files need to be parsed into multi-line sub units for processing (by a different physical process). My current setup is crude and parses the entire file into memory before beginning to process the sub units. This is fine as long as the file fits, so I get into trouble > 2GB or so when my machine flat runs out of memory. The simple thing to do is to only read in some of the file, process what was read in, and then read in more. I more or less know how to stop reading at some point in the file, but I'm not sure how to resume from that point later when I need more data. Is there a way to count lines and then getline() starting from a specific point in the file? From reading the getline() doc, it doesn't look like there is.

This is my current function,

Code:
void ParseFile(char *path, char type) {
// open input file
ifstream input_file(path);
if( !input_file.good() ) { cerr << "Failed to open " << path << endl; exit(ERRCODE_ERROR); }
int pos = 1;

[Code] ....

I need to remove the code to open the file from this function and open it elsewhere. I would like to call this every time I run out of data, if( tasks.empty() ), and get more data from the input file, but I don't know how to resume reading the input file from where I left off.

If this is not possible, I guess I would have to place a function call in while( input_file.good() ) to call out and process the data I have. When the current tasks list is finished, the list could be cleared and control returned into the while loop to continue reading input and start re-populating the list.

C :: Merging All TXT Files In A Directory

Dec 6, 2013

I'm writing a program to merge all .txt files in a directory. I had the code working and then made small change. It started crashing and I couldn't get it back to working.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <dirent.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>

[Code] ....

It's crashing around the

Code: while(!feof(in)){ .

If I comment that section out, the code still works. But, I know that portion of the code works to copy text from one file to another! It's actually from the Schildt complete C reference and I have tested it several times on it's own.

C/C++ :: Single Facility Layout (multiple FOR Loops)

Mar 15, 2015

I've been given an assignment called a Single Facility Layout Problem in which a number of machines (for the purpose of the assignment they're called machines) with an x-coordinate, y-coordinate and weighting are given/inputted. I'm using 5 machines for ease of use and reading errors.

The object of the program is to calculate the value of each set of coordinates using the Me formula, the lower the value, the better. Thus the program should output a 5 different values.

Problem: My problem is that instead of getting, say 5 unique values, I'm getting 5 of the same value much like the photo attached.

- How can I remedy this?
- Is there a limit to the amount of FOR loops that can be nested? If not why isn't my code working correctly?
- Where should I place the printf statement in order that I will output 5 unique values?

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <math.h>
int main() {
//'h' is number of machines, objects etc.
int h=5;

C++ :: Display Last 1000 Lines From Multiple Text Files (log Files)

Jan 16, 2014

I am writing a piece of code that requires me to display the last 1000 lines from a multiple text files (log files). FYI, I am running on Linux and using g++.

I have a log file from which - if it contains more than 1000 lines, I need to display the last 1000 lines. However, the log file could get rotated. So, in case where the current log file contains less than 1000 lines, I have to go to older log file and display the remaining. For e.g., if log got rotated and new log file contains 20 lines, I have to display the 980 lines from old log file + 20 from current log files.

What is the best way to do this? Even an outline algorithm will work.

C :: How To Include Single Header Files Into Project

I'm a beginner with C and wonder how to include single header files (*.h) in to my project. I mean header files which are not included to the standard installation package.

I thought it would work if I just copy the newheader.h file in to library folder c:MinGWinclude, but it didn't work. Is there some kinf of GCC -command or procedure to add these single header files or how it should work?

All of those standard header files are working well and I don't have any problems with them.

Environment I'm using is MinGW+GCC+Win7.

C++ ::  Multiple Files Causes (Multiple Definition) Error?

I'm using multiple C++ files in one project for the first time. Both have need to include a protected (#ifndef) header file. However, when I do that, I get a multiple definition error.

From what I found from research, adding the word inline before the function fixes the error. Is this the right way to do this, and why does it work? Should I make a habbit of just declaring any function that might be used in two .cpp files as inline?
