C++ :: Inputting Into Double-sized Vector Freezes?

Mar 27, 2013

Whenever the code reaches:

matrix[atoi(tmp[1].c_str())][atoi(tmp[2].c_str())] = strtod(tmp[3].c_str(), NULL);

The app just blocks. Could it be due to a lack of RAM (since its inside a massive loop and I'm currently using an old-ass pc with 1GB RAM) or is it bad programming? If I remove that line everything runs smoothly.

C++ :: Should Use Vector Or Just Double Array

Dec 15, 2014

I am programming about some numerical problems. I know that vector supplies vector operations. But vector always allocate more memory (used when the size changes). My matrix or array never change size, and the vector operation is just +,-,dot,cross,distance

My question is that should I use vector, or simple double array with new & delete is enough for me?

C++ :: Game Freezes When Applying Surface From One Object Onto Another?

May 28, 2013

Been trying to figure out why my program freezes. I know exactly what line of code is causing it, but I can't figure out WHY it's causing it. It compiles fine, there are no errors returned, and then the game just stalls and I have to ctrl+alt+del to kill it.

Anyway, what I have set up is something like this:

main.cpp
#include "SDL.h"
#include "SDL_gfxPrimitives.h"
#include "SDL_image.h"
#include "SDL_rotozoom.h"

[Code]....

This is the line of code that's freezing the program. Simply put, so that you don't really have to go through it piece by piece, what I have done is:

*each player gets their own drawing surface called PlayScreen
*each player gets an array of 360 drawing surfaces called ShipPic. These are to keep the game from having to render the rotation pics of the ship on the fly.
*Get_Ship clips the requested ship picture out of the ship sprite sheet and puts it in ShipPic[0] for the original angle.
*the original picture is rotated by 1 degree and put into the 360 ShipPic slots.
*when the player rotates their ship, the angle changes, and it calls the ShipPic with the same number as the player's angle and places it on the screen.

All of this works perfectly.

Then, in Player::draw_screen(), I have it set up so that each player looks at all the other players and gets their distance. If they're within range, it takes the other player's picture rotated by the other player's angle and puts it on the current player's PlayScreen. This is where it freezes.

I've checked for NULL pictures, I've checked to be sure the angle is between 0 and 359, nothing makes any difference. I know it's reading the other player's information since I can output all of the player's X & Y coordinates, angles, the width/height of their pictures, etc. on each other's screens. So they're definitely talking.

To test the code, I've changed it from

Apply_Surface(ShipX, ShipY, p[i].ShipPic[(int)p[i].angle], PlayScreen);
to
Apply_Surface(ShipX, ShipY, p[ID].ShipPic[(int)p[ID].angle], PlayScreen);

And it works perfectly, placing the player's OWN picture in for the other players. So the function works. It's just when I try to take another player's picture and place it on the current player's screen that it freezes.

I've tried quite a few different ideas, such as creating a temp drawing surface to blit the other player's picture onto, but again, it freezes as soon as I try using the other player's pictures.

C++ :: SFML - Relative Position In Different Sized Windows

Apr 27, 2013

Is there any way in sfml version 2 that I can get objects in a graphics window to retain there relative positions and sizes when the window is resized? I have tried looking in the documentation for version 2 but with no luck.

As an example suppose the window is 800x600 and there is a line running right across the window at 3/4 of the way down (i.e at y=450). If the window is then made larger say 1280x1024 how would I keep the line in the same relative position (i.e all the way across 1280 and 3/4 of the y setting down).

C++ ::  how To Combine A Function Call And Inputting A Value

Mar 15, 2014

We're working on classes in my programming class, and I have a question about function calls.

Bascially, I have all my set and get functions set up and ready to go.

I was wondering if it was possible to have the user input a variable while calling a function.

for example

cin >> getname();

the user inputs a value that gets passed into getname.

Or does it have to be something like

cin >> name;
getname(name);

mind you all, this isn't code from my program i'm just spitballing here.

C++ :: Find Function To A Vector Of Structures Vector

Jul 5, 2013

I have asked a related question before, and it was resolved successfully. In the past, when I wanted to use std::max_element in order to find the maximum element (or even sort by using std::sort) of a vector of structures according to one of the members of the structure, all I had to do was to insert a specially designed comparison function as the third argument of the function std::max::element. But the latter comparison function naturally accepts two arguments internally.

For instance, here is a test program that successfully finds the maximum according to just one member of the structure:

Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <vector>
#include <algorithm>

[Code] ....

And the output was this, as expected:
Maximum element S.a of vector<S> vec is at: 9
[I]max element of vec.a between slot 3 and slot 6 is: 6, and its index is: 6 vec[6].a = 6
[I]max element of vec.a between slot 4 and slot 7 is: 7, and its index is: 7 vec[7].a = 7
[I]max element of vec.a between slot 5 and slot 8 is: 8, and its index is: 8 vec[8].a = 8
[I]max element of vec.a between slot 6 and slot 9 is: 9, and its index is: 9 vec[9].a = 9

However, I now need to search and find an element of vector<myStruct> according to just one member of myStruct, instead of finding the maximum or sorting as before. This presents a problem because the function std::find does not accept such a comparison function as its third argument.

This was the description of the std::find function that I found: find - C++ Reference

Code:
template <class InputIterator, class T> InputIterator find (InputIterator first, InputIterator last, const T& val);

I could also find another function called std::find_if, but this only accepts a unary predicate like this: find_if - C++ Reference

Code:
template <class InputIterator, class UnaryPredicate> InputIterator find_if (InputIterator first, InputIterator last, UnaryPredicate pred);

And once again this is either inadequate of I don't see how to use it directly, because for the third argument I would like to insert a function that takes two arguments with a syntax like this:

Code:
int x=7;
std::vector<S>::iterator result;
result = std::find(vec.begin(), vec.end(), []( const (int x, const S & S_1) { return ( x == S_1.a ) ; } ) ;

Is there another std function that I can use to make search and find an element according to just one member of myStruct?

Or perhaps there is a clever way to pass two arguments to the unary predicate.

C/C++ :: Cannot Print Vector Of Vector Of Doubles

Mar 31, 2014

I am trying to print a matrix solution that I've stored in a vector of doubles. The original matrix was stored in a vector of vector of doubles. I want to print to the screen and an output file. Right now it just prints to screen column-style and the output file is horizontal-style. I tried to change the solution from vector of doubles to a vector of vector of doubles like the original matrix but when I run my code it crashes. Here is what I am referring to:

void readMatrix(vector<vector<double>> &matrix, vector<double> &b, int &N, string input) {
ifstream in(input);
in >> N;
matrix.resize(N);
b.resize(N);

[Code] ....

However when I change my printResult function to this (I removed the string argument because I just want to get it working to the screen first):

void printResult(vector<vector<double>> &sol, const int N) {
//ofstream out(output);
//int j;
for (int i = 0; i < N; i++) {
for (int j = 0; j < N; j++){

[Code] ....

The program crashes. Am I even printing the matrix correctly?
