C++ :: Detecting Application Startup And Exit Events?

Apr 20, 2012

I have written ( using VS2008 c++ ) a windows service which sends information about PC usage to a central database, as part of a PC availability setup. I have been asked to add the following functionality to it:

1) What applications are most used, when and how long for, and

2) What web sites are being accessed, again to find the most popular etc.

My main question is, what functionality is there to trap application start / close events from within my service ( just need the application name ), and secondly I am already using sockets to send information to a PHP script on a server, the best way to see what web pages are being accessed is to build in a packet sniffer, and extract the information from that.

Visual C++ :: Exit Application Using Thread In MFC SDI

Feb 4, 2014

I have a SDI application. I created a method OnClose to handle ON_WM_CLOSE of CMainFrm. This onclose() function calls a method in cmyview.cpp. Here, I created a thread that calls global function and from this function it calls another function in cmyview.cpp. At certain condition my application should close at here, I used postmessgae(WM_CLOSE (or) WM_DESTROY). I am having an error as object reference not set on postmessage(WM_CLOSE) it is going to afxwin2.inl page where exception occurs.

Below is code snippetHere, either j or k will only be true depneds on user input)

Visual C++ :: Define A Range Of Exit Codes In Application?

I want to define a range of exit codes in my application. These codes will be used as a return value of ExitInstance function. I want to know the exit codes availables (values not used for example by windows to inform about an other error). When I force to crash my application, I get some different error codes: 8148, 10176.

What is the no available range exit codes?

Is this the ranges code unavailable?

C/C++ :: Add Speech Program At Startup In Windows

May 16, 2014

I am trying to build a program which would start at the start of the computer, so for that when ever the user would run the program the program must get copied in the startup folder of the Windows I guess or anything else so that the program runs as soon as the computer is booted.

I this program would create a .vbs file n the startup, in that vbs file i would write the code for speech. so what the computer would greet you when you switch on the PC.

Here's what I tried:

#include<stdio.h>
#include<conio.h>
#include<string.h>

[Code]....

So my motive behind this code is that, this should create a .vbs file in the startup folder in that vbs file the above code would be written,

(Dim speaks,speech
speaks=Hello!
set speech=CreateObject(sapi.voice)
speech.Speak speaks) a

And then the vbs file would execute as soon as the computer starts, and then it would speak "Hello!".

But the problem is that i am not able to create a file in the folder when i run the program the file is not created, i do not get any error but nothing happens as well.

C# :: Using Lambdas With Events?

Feb 24, 2014

I have a program that has been broken into View/Model/Control plus another class to handle RS232 output.

When the View requests something to be sent via RS232, an event is sent to the control, which then raises an event for the serial class.

Is there a way of using only one event without the serial knowing anything about the view?

If there was, I'd imagine it would be something with Lamdas.

C :: How To Deploy EXE File On Domain As Startup Script To Display Information

Aug 30, 2013

I have some requirement regarding implementing a C program .exe to implement on Domain computers as a Startup/Logon script. I created a C program which is meant to be run on domain PCs when they start/Login. This .exe program runs some DOS commands using system function, then writing output to few files. I then pick up required information from files & prints it on to a console screen. While creating this program using C compiler, it gathers all the info & prints to screen properly. It uses following commands in program:

Code:

reg export "...." "c:windowswebwallpaper
eg_xport.txt" Here "..." means some registry path e.g. HKLM... etc.

Code:

systeminfo > "c:windowswebwallpapersys_info.txt" wmic qfe get installedon > "
c:windowswebwallpaperpatches_date.txt"

Two issues over here are that 'reg export' to a file and 'wmic' require admin privileges on domain PC & thus the program should carry admin rights while executing. I got this solved by putting this program to run as startup script. The program runs, creates files and removes them also(as a part of program), but shows no output on screen (from screen I mean console screen). I then created a plain "Hello" program and implemented it on few domain PCs, I guess script got executed but nothing came up on the screen.

I am not sure what is happening at backend. Whether the program is able to execute only DOS commands & skip all other IF/ELSE/WHILE conditional loops. Or these are executing but PRINTF is not able to launch a console screen. Printing output to screen is must in order to pass message to users using PCs.

C++ :: Creating Events And Registering To Them

Mar 16, 2014

I want to build a library using c++ which will serve as an abstraction layer between applications and low-level process. The library will provide some APIs for the applications for some purposes.

For example the low-level process, may send an indication to the library i.e. raise an event, and the library in turns send it to all the applications, which have their registered callbacks to this library.

Any example for the previous scenario in c++ using boost library or the standard library will be perfect in Linux environment? The example that I want is: Generate event from a process and pass it to the library, then let an application register callback to the library.

Initially I know in Linux, I may use signal to send events, but my plan is to have a something more general not tighten to a specific OS.

C# :: Delegates / Events Are Just Not Sticking

Dec 28, 2014

In my week long quest to understand delegates/events, all the contrived examples have made my understanding worse. I've been trying to make this simple console project work, where you have a Person, Phone and Switchboard class. My thinking was, that the Phone object would broadcast to any SwitchBoard that's listening, the SwitchBoard would broadcast to the proper phone on the other end and the phone would do the same for any person that's listening.

This is what I have so far, and after adding the SwitchBoard.

class Phone {
public delegate void IncomingCallHandler();
public event IncomingCallHandler IncomingCallEvent;

public delegate void OutGoingCallHandler(Phone p);
public event OutGoingCallHandler OutGoingCallEvent;

C# :: Detecting Previous Installs?

Jul 16, 2014

Say a user installs and uses the software for awhile. Then they uninstall it. Client wants the database containing client data to remain behind, in case they ever re-install the software. Which is fine.

So then.. they re-install the software. Client wants them to have the choice to either use the existing database, or to create a new one. When the software fires up, it always checks for the database, and creates one if it's not there. So how can I determine if the instance is a new install, or a current install, given that the database will be there no matter what?

Visual C++ :: Main CWnd Class And Mouse Events

Jun 17, 2013

I have a main CWnd class called CMainWnd which is created like this:

Code:
DWORD dwStyle = WS_VISIBLE | WS_BORDER | WS_CLIPCHILDREN ;
...
CWnd::Create(AfxRegisterWndClass(CS_DBLCLKS), L"", dwStyle, rect, parent, NULL, NULL);

And I draw smaller windows on this main window with a CWnd-dervied class called CClientWnd, which is created like this:

Code:
DWORD dwStyle = WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_CLIPSIBLINGS | WS_BORDER;
...
CWnd::Create(AfxRegisterWndClass(CS_DBLCLKS), L"", dwStyle, rect, parent, NULL, NULL);

In the main window I draw lots of background stuff using a memoryDC and BitBlt(). In the child window, I actually am not drawing anything, I just created it to have events like mouse over, etc. In the child window when the mouse is over the window I bring up a pop-up window. This works unless my mouse is over any parts where something is drawn in the main window, then the popup just flickers constantly. Why is the main window affecting my mouse over events if I am not handling any such events for it?

C :: OpenCV And Detecting A Person With A Webcam

The above code is all I have so far. I got confused when I got to the part where my book on C tells me I need to use the cvCalcOpticalFlowFarneback() function to compare 2 consecutive images from the webcam and create the optical flow, and then measure movement between the frames to detect whether or not a person is moving through the room. How to do this, and the OpenCV wiki wasn't very descriptive on how to set it up for beginners. Honestly, the parameters just confused me and I didn't see a return value listed, or how you would get data from it.

C++ :: Overflow / Underflow Detecting Functions

Sep 15, 2014

I am performing arithmetic operations on very large integers that operate around the threshold of the maximum positive integer an int variable can handle (i.e. 2147483647) for a 32-bit machine. I have been studying the in-built functions in the C++ Standard Library for some time now where I came across some error detecting functions in the <cmath> and <cerrno> header files. The impression I got from the literature is that they are solely used in conjunction with functions contained in the <cmath> header file and not necessarily with fundamental arithmetic operations like addition and subtraction.

I need a means to know when my arithmetic operations generate overflows/underflows! Is there any way I can adapt the functionalities of these functions to my needs?

C# :: Detecting CD-ROM Drive And Grab Filepath Of Only CSV File

Jul 8, 2014

I would like the user to insert a CD into their computer and click on an button on my application that allows them to read the CD-ROM and find a specific file type, e.g. csv, and then grab the info in the csv file.

I already have my StreamReader setup grabbing a filepath.

Now I am just wondering...how do I detect the CD-ROM and how do I grab the filepath of the only CSV file on the CD-ROM?

What's behind detecting a CD-ROM and grabbing a specific file type from a CD-ROM?

I heard about DriveInfo

However, that only allows me to detect a drive but not look at it's contents.
