C++ :: Creating Events And Registering To Them

Mar 16, 2014

I want to build a library using c++ which will serve as an abstraction layer between applications and low-level process. The library will provide some APIs for the applications for some purposes.

For example the low-level process, may send an indication to the library i.e. raise an event, and the library in turns send it to all the applications, which have their registered callbacks to this library.

Any example for the previous scenario in c++ using boost library or the standard library will be perfect in Linux environment? The example that I want is: Generate event from a process and pass it to the library, then let an application register callback to the library.

Initially I know in Linux, I may use signal to send events, but my plan is to have a something more general not tighten to a specific OS.

Visual C++ :: Using COM Without Registering?

Mar 5, 2013

In a C++ project, I need to call a C# created COM object (as a .dll)

Is there a way to use such a COM object without having it be registered in the registry?

The C# COM dll is just a "go between" our C++ code and a .NET library, there's no "COM contract" of any kind, the COM interfaces change each version. The fact it's COM and needs registration is annoying because it makes it hard to have multiple versions of our software installed (needed under some circumstances) and running at the same time.

I'd like a way to not have any registration at all. And just be able to do a LoadLibrary("c:TheRightPathcom.dll") of the right dll and then get going from there.

Visual C++ :: Shell (Namespace) Extension Not Registering?

Dec 13, 2012

I have created a Namespace Extension (I hope so) by creating a ATL Project with MFC support as dll in Visual Studio 2010.

Now I have a Implementation of IShellFolder:

Code:
// ILCShellFolder.h: Deklaration von CILCShellFolder
#pragma once
#include "resource.h" // Hauptsymbole
#include "NewNSE_i.h"
#if defined(_WIN32_WCE) && !defined(_CE_DCOM) && !defined(_CE_ALLOW_SINGLE_THREADED_OBJECTS_IN_MTA)

[Code] ....

Not any of those IShellFolder Methods is being called... When I attach the explorer.exe process (which I know I can use to debug on other projects, just in case to exclude errors) it tells me that the DLL is not loaded by the explorer.exe process.

C++ :: Parse Executable Files - Registering Types To Be Used At Runtime

Jul 30, 2014

I'm writing a program that needs to parse executable files. I've got an "executable" base-class, and currently an "elf" class which inherits from it for parsing ELF files, and I will add more parsers (COM, MZ, PE, a.out, MACH-O, whatever) later on.

I want the program to automatically detect which kind of executable it's loading at runtime. It should be easy because every executable format I'm aware of/plan to support starts with a magic number. But because I can't have the parsers not check the file type (what if I re-use the code?), and I don't want to check each file twice (not just for performance, but also because only the ELF parser should know that ELF files start with "x7fELF", etc.) so I've come up with a pretty lazy solution: just try to parse the file with each known parser and have them throw an exception ("exe_type_error") if they can't parse it. If that exception gets thrown, try the next parser; if not, stop.

The remaining problem is how, at runtime, my program will know what parsers are available. I don't want to hard-code it in the main function; instead, I'd like the parsers to "register" themselves as available. That way, if I decide to go down the route of adding new parsers via dynamic linking, I will only have to add an API for dynamic libraries to register their parser, without recompiling any of the main program's code. I also want to do the same thing for another key part of the program (it's a static executable optimizer; it will run a series of "tests" (e.g. "is xor eax, eax faster than mov eax, 0 on this machine?") and optimizations ("if yes, change all mov eax, 0 to xor eax, eax") and I want to load those at runtime too).

C# :: Using Lambdas With Events?

Feb 24, 2014

I have a program that has been broken into View/Model/Control plus another class to handle RS232 output.

When the View requests something to be sent via RS232, an event is sent to the control, which then raises an event for the serial class.

Is there a way of using only one event without the serial knowing anything about the view?

If there was, I'd imagine it would be something with Lamdas.

C# :: Delegates / Events Are Just Not Sticking

Dec 28, 2014

In my week long quest to understand delegates/events, all the contrived examples have made my understanding worse. I've been trying to make this simple console project work, where you have a Person, Phone and Switchboard class. My thinking was, that the Phone object would broadcast to any SwitchBoard that's listening, the SwitchBoard would broadcast to the proper phone on the other end and the phone would do the same for any person that's listening.

This is what I have so far, and after adding the SwitchBoard.

class Phone {
public delegate void IncomingCallHandler();
public event IncomingCallHandler IncomingCallEvent;

public delegate void OutGoingCallHandler(Phone p);

C# :: Managing Multiple Button Events Using Array

Apr 19, 2014

I'am creating a 10x10 graph of nodes. Each node is a button object.

Instead of coding the click event procedure for each (As each button will do the same thing when clicked), how would I implement a single click event method for all of the buttons within a Button array.

Picture of the 10x10 grid

EDIT: Each button would return its location (x,y) to the node class.

I'm attempting to write a basic Dijkstra's algorithm using a 10x10 grid.

C++ :: Detecting Application Startup And Exit Events?

Apr 20, 2012

I have written ( using VS2008 c++ ) a windows service which sends information about PC usage to a central database, as part of a PC availability setup. I have been asked to add the following functionality to it:

1) What applications are most used, when and how long for, and

2) What web sites are being accessed, again to find the most popular etc.

My main question is, what functionality is there to trap application start / close events from within my service ( just need the application name ), and secondly I am already using sockets to send information to a PHP script on a server, the best way to see what web pages are being accessed is to build in a packet sniffer, and extract the information from that.

Visual C++ :: Main CWnd Class And Mouse Events

Jun 17, 2013

I have a main CWnd class called CMainWnd which is created like this:

Code:
DWORD dwStyle = WS_VISIBLE | WS_BORDER | WS_CLIPCHILDREN ;
...
CWnd::Create(AfxRegisterWndClass(CS_DBLCLKS), L"", dwStyle, rect, parent, NULL, NULL);

And I draw smaller windows on this main window with a CWnd-dervied class called CClientWnd, which is created like this:

Code:
DWORD dwStyle = WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_CLIPSIBLINGS | WS_BORDER;
...
CWnd::Create(AfxRegisterWndClass(CS_DBLCLKS), L"", dwStyle, rect, parent, NULL, NULL);

In the main window I draw lots of background stuff using a memoryDC and BitBlt(). In the child window, I actually am not drawing anything, I just created it to have events like mouse over, etc. In the child window when the mouse is over the window I bring up a pop-up window. This works unless my mouse is over any parts where something is drawn in the main window, then the popup just flickers constantly. Why is the main window affecting my mouse over events if I am not handling any such events for it?

C/C++ :: Creating A Static Map

Jun 19, 2014

I have a class where I'm trying to create two static maps. I know I haven't separated the implementation from the declaration. This is how I'm required to program at the moment.

My example class that I'm trying to compile looks like this:

#include <map>
#include <string>
class Foo {

[Code]....

I keep getting compiler errors, though, saying:

invalid use of qualified-name Foo::map1
and
invalid use of qualified-name Foo::map2

I can't initialize these maps explicitly; in my real program they're created by reading in a few different files' data on startup. I need to be able to access the maps throughout my entire application, and I don't want to be required to read in the same data file over and over again.

how static maps can be created properly, or failing that explain another methodology I could use to make them available to my entire application?

C/C++ :: Creating Username From Name

Nov 6, 2014

I'm trying to create a simple program that reads in the user's first name, middle name, and last name. Then inside of the userName function, I want it to only take the first letter of firstName, first letter of middleName, and then just output the full last name. So for example: if your name was John Kevin Smith, it would output jksmith. I'm having a lot of compile issues due to the pointers. I have to use the function in this code, so the pointers are needed.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
int main() {
char userName (char firstName[12], char middleName[12], char lastName[12], char firstInit[1], char secondInit[1]);
char firstName[12];
char middleName[12];
char lastName[12];
char firstInit[1];

Pen *Pointerpen = new Pen();

Can you actually designate memory space for a function? Or was this a typo on their part? It's never come up before and they didn't explain it.

Here I was able to put elements upto any number of time, but I have allocated memory to only 4 elements in T *mem.

My question, why the program is not crashing when I tried to put elements more that 4?

Is since the variable is of type Template? Any specific reason for this?

C :: Creating A Pendulum With Gravity

Jan 11, 2014

I have recently begun programming c within my university course. I have been given a task to add arrays to a program I had previously made to make it record the values as I expect I will then quote them on an exported document.

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
main() {
int i; // step counter
float theta[10000]; // initial value for angle

[Code]....

The pendulum is meant to swing and take gravity into account, then it is meant to loop and record values for the step count, time, theta and omega (mainly theta and omega required). The boundaries are set so once the angle of theta reaches 180 degrees it then stops. I believe the problem lies in the way I have created my theta array, however, I don't properly know how to implement this. Upon launch it asks for omega, as required, after inputting the value it crashes.
