C++ :: Default Document Folder Path
Mar 12, 2013
im trying to write a file to a default document folder..something like...
FILE* file;
file = fopen("%docdir% est.txt", "w");
fputs("Hello", file);
fclose(file);
"%docdir% est.txt" this isnt working for me, i have to write it as
"C:userspublicdocument est.txt"
any method to write directly to default document folder so it will work in most Windows ? for example in windows 7 this is the default folder "C:users publicdocument est.txt" in windows XP its different
i have to detect the windows version first, to write the correct path

This question is currently only for windows; but I would like to know about a cross-platform way to perform what I want to do (explained below) -
I have created a little program:
#include <iostream>
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
for (int i = 0; i < argc; ++i) {
std::cout << argv[i] << '
';
} }
I have added this program to the windows PATH. I put this program in C:Program FilesProgram
I now navigate to C:DataVariousTexts using CMD.
Then I type in: "program x"
The program will print out "program x" as by default. What I would like to get hold of is the folder in which the program is actually being called. ( I want to somehow get "C:DataVariousTexts" to be read into my program ).
How do I perform such an operation?

I'm writing a small function that gets as parameter a file's path and a folder's path, and copies the given file to that folder.
Code:
int copy_file(const char* source, const char* folder) {
char copy[PATH_MAX];
strcpy(copy, folder);
strcat(copy, "/");
strcat(copy, source);
[Code] ....
Basically, this function purpose is to make a backup of source in folder every X minutes (depending on user's input).
The problem is the second call to open():
This call attempts to open the file for writing, and creates it if it is not already exist.
It also truncates it before writing to it - and that's my concern:
Let's say this is the second time this function runs, so copy is already exist. open() will then truncate it, and then one of the system calls in the while loop fails.
In this situation, I might be left with no backup file.
The problem also arises for when source is a read-only file:
If source is a read-only file, and copy is not already exist (meaning - it's the first backup attempt), then everything's fine, but, if source is a read-only file and copy is already exist, then I have to first remove copy altogather, and make a fresh copy of source.
Making a backup with new name for copy every time copy_file() runs, will solve this problem, and how can this be accomplished?
I should say that I'd really prefer that copy and source will have the same names when copy_file() returns...

I've forgotten how to include a path to a folder from my current directory!
I mean, instead of loading my dice images as "dice6.png", I'm trying to load them from a file, as ".Imagesdice6.png"
Not sure why, but this isn't working. Google searching has got me nowhere.

make a text file full of vocabulary wordsRead in that file and allow the user to specify the .doc file (should be simple)Go through the .doc file and highlight all the words that appear in the .txt file green.Open the .doc after the process is complete.
After I accomplish that, I can try to make more tweaks by maybe using a database instead for my vocabulary words and implementing error checking to be sure there are no duplicate entries, specify a different color for certain words instead of using just one color, etc. First and foremost, however, I want to know if the bare basics would be possible. I'm new to C++, but I have about 2yrs of Java under my belt, so I should be able to catch on relatively fast.

I have a program that converts document files to html , however there's a very strange issue with the program, it is only converting files that i open within the program using fstream i.e. ofstream out("test.doc"); now ill have to copy the contents from another document that i want to convert to this test file and it would convert but if i try converting a document that has not been implicitly created it would give me a garbage .html file.
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <cassert>
#include <string>
#define tab " "
// file extensions that the program can handle
// you can add more extenssions if needed
using namespace std;
char *fileExt[] = {".doc", ".c", ".cpp"};
void convert_to_html(string fileName);

I have an MFC program created from the app wizard. It is an MDI program, reading/writing text files using Serialize. I can read the document and know that the entire document was read into my buffer without any errors. This was verified by compaing the number of bytes read with the file length.
How do I get the document to display in my main/child window?
How do I read the document from the window so I can save it back to the file?

I was just wondering whether or not it is possible to "mix" characters and integer values in a text document that is to be read by C.
I am to read and use values for length around the hip, neck and such, however, most of the tutoring examples I am finding online seem to strictly deal with either integers or characters alone.
Basically my text file looks a bit like:
Abdominal length: 90.000
Neck length: 26.500
and so on
So, before I move further into this subject, is it possible at all to isolate and use only the double values or will I have to format my text file differently?

I'm trying to make a program that reads data from a text document and allows me to modify it. I am stuck with the display() function. I can get the printf statement to display all my array values except the char AD value. When I include flight[i].AD it causes the program to crash. When I run the program to only display the AD variable I get a bunch of weird symbols. I'm not sure where the program is going wrong because it seems to be storing values properly except for the AD variable.
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
//named constants
const int MAX=100; //maximum flights
const int SIZE=20; //maximum characters
//struct definition
struct FlightType
{
char name[SIZE];

Is it possible to use a CFormView as the main view without using document support. IE pointing CWinApps m_pMainWnd to the CFrameWnd derived MainFrame and attaching the CFormView from there. It does not seem to be working and I was wondering before I waste any more time on the solution if it is even possible. I know it is an easy solution if I create a true SDI application however I have no use for documents in this application.
