C :: Create Program That Takes In Information And Formats It Into 3 Columns - Float Variable Not Working
Dec 12, 2013
Here your supposed to create a program that takes in information and formats it into three columns.
I can't seem to use the float variable unitprice with decimal places here for, if I try to use %.1f and type in an input, the program seems to skip over the second scanf function, not allowing me to put input into the third scanf function as the program runs before I can.
I can use %f on its own and it works but this creates too many zeroes(and you're supposed to set the currency limit to $99999.99).
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main(void) {
int itemno, month, year, day;
float unitprice;
[Code]....
So the output should look like three columns. It's just the float that is the issue here....

I'm just getting back into the swing of things after a long time of not programming. I'm trying to create a program which takes in command line arguments and prints the last one. My code is as follows:
#include <iostream>
#include <vector>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main() {
string x;
vector<string> arguments;
[Code]...
And the error message I receive, a simple but frustrating one, is as follows:
Enter arguments, enter STOP to stop: Segmentation fault...

Why is my program outputting zero for the variable pop?
Code:
#include <iostream>
int main(void){
using namespace std;
//capture data
cout << "Enter the world's population: ";
[Code] ....
It's obviously not std::cout, but I'm thinking its the way I'm operating on long?

I would like to convert a float or double variable into unsigned char variable and back.
float number_float = 23.453f;
unsigned char* number_char = (unsigned char*)malloc(sizeof(float));
number_char = reinterpret_cast<unsigned char*> (&number_float);
float* number_float_0 = reinterpret_cast<float*>(&number_char);
I am not getting the same value back.. why?

I have a school project in which need to create a function that takes a File Object as a Reference Parameter. Supposedly, it should allow me to read the first piece of data from others separated by a space from a file. The later be able to continue reading from the next piece of data.
I know how to set things up to read from the data file, such as using
Code:
#include <iostream> , and
Code:
ifstream inputFileName;
inputFile.open ("nameOfFile");
I also understand how to pass a variable by reference to a function. But I simply cannot put the two items together!
I tried using
Code:
void getFileInput (ifstream &); //parameter
getFileInput ("nameOfFile") // call
void getFileInput (ifstream &dataFileName)
In the function I used
Code:
ifstream inputFile;
inputFile.open (dataFileName);
I'm just not getting an understanding of this concept!

I just wrote the following simple program:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <math.h>
int main(void) {
float fx, x;
[Code] ....
The output increases x by 0.1 as expected until x=1.5. After that x becomes 1.600001 and not 1.6 as expected.

I would like to convert a string variable to float.When acquiring data from text file, I use:
while( getline( ifs, temp )) {
numberOfFeatures++;
vecteur.clear();
string::size_type stTemp = temp.find(separateur);
number_descriptorEntries=0;
[code].....
the matrix that I obtain is of type vector<Vec> where Vec is a vector of strings.I want to convert each element of matrixe to a float.

I am using Dev C++ compiler on Windows 7 and was programming a piece of code that is supposed to do the following -
Create a structure to store information about products for sale in a store. It should store information about the product name, the price, and the product number and then create an array of products called Inventory. Add five products to your inventory.
But for some reason, which is unknown to me, I always seem to get a compiler error. And this is what i have so far -
Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
#include<string.h>
struct product{
char name[30];
int product_number;
double price;
[Code] ....

I am writing a program that models the ups & downs of a particular stock. Everything is pretty much done, except that I need to create another event to notify that saves the following information to a file when the stock's threshold is reached: date & time, stock name, initial value & current value. I have something like this so far:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using System.IO;
[Code]...
I feel like i need something along the lines of
s.stockEvent += new Delegate( ???? ) in my myFile class so it know when the threshold is reached, to write the information of the current stock to the file.

I need to create a main function with a one dimension dynamic array with float data type. The total number of array elements must be controlled by a user input from the keyboard. Test data is three different lengths 3,6,9 of the array. The lengths have to be set up at run time from users input. I understand how to create dynamic array but not where the user inputs the length of the array. How would I implement this?

Write a C/C++ program that reads a boolean expression in sum-of-products form and generates the sum-of-minterms form (canonical form). Use single letter to represent variables. The following symbols will be used to represent operators: NOT: ~, AND: *, OR: +. Other operators won't be used.
Examples of execution:
number of variables: 2
SOP expression: ~A+B
output: ~A*~B + ~A*B + A*B
number of variables: 3
SOP expression: x*y*z + ~x*~y + y*~z
output: x*y*z + ~x*~y*z + ~x*~y*~z + x*y*~z + ~x*y*~z

I have to make a program that takes a number input from the user and prints the corresponding fibonacci sequence number. For example, for the input of 3, it should print 2 since the third term in the fibonacci sequence is 2.
I am not sure how to do this so for my attempt, I used the formula found in this website. A Formula for the nth Fibonacci number
Here is the program so far. It doesn't produce the correct output.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include "genlib.h"
#include "simpio.h"
#include "math.h"
[Code]....

I am writing a C++ program which takes date & time input from the user. This is then parsed into a struct such as:
struct time
{
short year;
short month;
short day;
short hour;
short min;
};
My question is: how can I convert such a struct into a time_t object, which is an unsigned long giving the time as the number of seconds elapsed since the epoch Jan 1st 1970, 00:00, as set out in time.h.
I am wondering if this can be achieved using the standard library, or whether I just need to write a function to perform the appropriate arithmetic.

I have a N queens (actually 8 queens to be specific) program that accepts the numbers in order by row. I need to get it so it accepts the numbers in order by column. At first glance I thought it was just one space different, but it turned out not to be and how to get the one space difference in there. My current code (which I'm aware isn't doing the column accepting right) is:
Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
int board[8];
cout << "Enter the columns containing queens, in order by column: ";
for(int i = 0; i < 8; ++i) {
cin >> board[i];
[Code]...
What the output should be:
Code:
Enter the rows containing queens, in order by column:
7
6
5
3
4
2
1
0
.......Q
......Q.
.....Q..
...Q....
....Q...
..Q.....

What it is:
Code:
Enter the columns containing queens, in order by column:

The program need to find mean of elements in columns which are divided by 3. And to print which colmn has the greater mean
Example
For matrix:
7 9 5
17 15 30
29 34 60
Program print: 0 12 45. The greater mean: 3 column.
I wrote this code and it prints 0 12 45 idk how to find which column has greater mean?
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#define max 50
int main()
{int n,m,i,j,k,d,br=0,suma;
int a[max][max];
int b[max][max];
printf("Kolku redici i kolku koloni da imat matricite: ");
scanf("%d %d ", &n,&m);

Write a method that returns the sum of all the elements in a specific column in a matrix using the following header:
double sumColumn(const double m[] [SIZE], int rowSize, int columnIndex)
Write a test program that reads a 3-by-4 matrix and displays the sum of each column. here is a sample run:
Enter a 3-by-4 matrix row by row:
1.5 2 3 4
5.5 6 7 8
9.5 1 3 1
Sum of the elements at column 0 is 16.5
Sum of the elements at column 1 is 9.0
Sum of the elements at column 2 is 13.0
Sum of the elements at column 3 is 13.0
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
const int SIZE = 4;
int rowSize=3;

Write a C program that takes multiple integers from the user and finds the minimum value. The numbers entered by the user are positive integers. When the user is done entering all the numbers, the user enters the sentinel value of -1.
This is a sample output. Notice how the program prints a counter (1, 2, 3, ) for user keep track of how many numbers were entered so far. Include this feature in your program.
I have tried different ways to get the result from while loops, do while, and if-else statements. We have not done any max/min problem in class and the book was kind of vague. We have not learned arrays yet in class and I can't figure a way to compare the integers the user inputs as it is an infinite(from what I am reading) amount aloud. The problem I am seeing is the loop works and stops with the sentinel value but the INT_MIN is using the sentinel value. I also have not addressed the input of negative numbers yet with the first program I wrote, maybe one of my problems.
Code:
/*File:HW2Q3.c,
A C program that takes multiple integers from the user and finds the minimum value. The numbers entered by the user are positive integers. When the user is done entering all the numbers, the user enters the sentinel value of -1.*/
/*header files*/
#include<stdio.h>
#include<limits.h>
/*****start program*****/
int main() {
[Code] ....
I have also tried this way as well, min value still comes back as -1 the sentinel value, and the else statement is being ignored. I am sure it is something silly but I am lost and confused at this point.
Code:
/*File:HW2Q3.c,
A C program that takes multiple integers from the user and finds the minimum value. The numbers entered by the user are positive integers. When the user is done entering all the numbers, the user enters the sentinel value of -1.*/
/*header files*/
#include<stdio.h>
#include<limits.h>
[Code] ....
