C++ :: Prime Checker Does Not Work
Nov 21, 2012A student approached me and asked why his prime checker wouldn't work. I took a look and it should work, imo, for all < 64 bit inputs.

checked for a bunch of primes i could think of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 up to 18446744073709551557, which is supposed to be one of the largest 64 bit primes. Worked.
C# :: Multiple Choice Symptom Checker?
Mar 9, 2015I'm doing a project through college which is a diagnostic and support tool for Windows OS's. The application at the moment has a simple expert system which is a Combobox with strings that relate to common PC problems. Then those strings are put through a switch statement and relevant commands are shown to fix the problem i.e. "My printer is not working" will disable all buttons except for printer management, spooler folder etc.
My supervisor who marks my project has said this isnt good enough and wants a more layered hierarchy approach so he's looking for 3-4 groupboxes with tickboxes inside them and users tick the boxes that relate to their problem which will give the functions to support. The only way I can see to do this at the moment is a massive nested switch statement that is really not worth the time. There are 60+ functions in my program so you can imagine how long the switch would be trying to pick and iterate through all of the possible answers.
I'm just trying to figuire out an easier way to do this, rather than a massive switch statement. Something like WebMD which has 4-5 tick boxes and can give out the same answer for different symptoms.

C/C++ :: Programming A Simple Spell Checker Without Using Functions
Mar 7, 2015I am programming a simple spell checker which checks if words match in a given dictionary.
The user first enters the words from the dictionary and then the words to check. I have comments in my code that explain how this is done.
The catch for the checking is: I cannot use functions like strcmp or even functions I made myself. For input and output I will also only use getchar and putchar.
Where I am stuck: I have a concept of how to check and compare the words with the dictionary, but this way the looping is extremely confusing (at least in my mind) and I cannot make a functioning one. The concept for this is in the comments of the code.
Here is what I've got so far.
The user enters aaa bb bbaa;abc aaa aa.
The output should be: *abc* aaa *aa*.
Since abc and aa does not match the dictionary on the left, but aaa does.
Also, words can have a max length of 4.

C++ :: Spell Checker - Check If Inputted Word Is In Dictionary File On Computer
Jul 31, 2013Over the last few days, I've been trying to implement a spell checker in c++ that checks if the inputted word is in the dictionary file on my computer. However, as I'm nearing completion of the project, I keep running into more and more errors, some of which I do not understand. My program is complete, albeit, with some minor bad practices (I hard coded a few things just to get the program up and running.For some reason, everything works well until I output spelling suggestions. I type in "mses" (attempting to spell mess) and it returns some strange characters. It does definitely recognize that there are two permutations that match words in the dictionary (however they are both mess due to the algorithm implemented), and I don't understand why? I will work on removing the duplicates after.

C# :: WPF Freeze Control During Update
Jun 11, 2012is there a way to tell WPF that I'm going to do a lengthy update on a control (TextBlock), and that it shouldn't redraw it until I tell it I'm done? I'm adding a large number of items to the Inlines property, and it has to redraw the entire control every time I add an item, which takes a very long time - about 1 second for every 100 items. I know some other frameworks allow freezing of certain controls, but I haven't been able to find anything in the documentation or on google. I've tried collapsing the TextBlock, and then making it visible again after the update, but it did not improve the performance at all.

Jun 29, 2014I have a label on my main form. When I menu select my settings form, I make a change to the label text on the main form but the label text does not update with the new text.
So here is my code in my settings form:

I may not fully understand the new instantiate key word, but doesn't this create another, new copy of my main form to operate on? And isn't that why I can't see my label text change on my main form that is previously in view?
All of the examples that I have been able to find show using this new key word to be able to access a component on another form. But to my understanding, I'm creating another, new form.

Feb 22, 2015Im trying to make a Tic Tac Toe board for an assignment. Right now it compiles fine but when I enter an x or o it does not update the board it just prints out the '.'s that the board is initialized to. Also, when I get to player 2 the board will printout twice so its 6 rows or 3 columns. The project uses a main to ask who starts then goes to a play function that asks for inputs and calls the makeMove function to place the x's and o's and the print function to display the updated board.

However, if I happen to edit some data through datagridview, I would like it to save the changes by clicking a save button. I do not know how to connect callDBButton_Click and saveButton_Click...I know how to update the changes if I just put adapter.Update(dataTable); at the end of the callDBButton_Click method...but I want to it only save changes when I CLICK the "Save" Button.

C# :: Cannot Update Text In Richtextbox Using Class
Oct 21, 2014It's my understanding that there are three ways to go about updating a control on a form from a class.
A) Instance the form, eg: Form1 Frm = new Form1();
The problems I have run into with this is that while writing text to a richtextbox using the instance Frm, the richtextbox never updates on the form.
B) Passing the object to the class.
This method seems less used and can be very problematic. Haven't looked into it thoroughly.
C) Exposing the objects using classes within the Form.
While making methods public they still do now show as available for use when calling from classes, unless I instance them but then I run into problem A. I've considered making the methods static so no instancing is required but when doing so the object(in this case richtextbox) becomes invalid due to itself being instanced by the automatically generated code when adding the object.
I know there is another way to pass values then force the object to update but that won't necessarily work with a richtextbox as you have the option to deal with color and font variations.
I imagine I'm missing something pretty simple here but I can't find any resources online about how to handle objects with more complex data than just straight text.
