Visual C++ :: Reading COM Struct From IDispatch

Apr 1, 2014

My question is that I have C++ function which has a IDispatch input as argument.

I am trying to read the struct from IDispatch.

So basically, the struct definition is

struct MyStruct {
void *m_pValue;
};

I can get the ITypeInfo and read the whole structure definition from it. But I do not know how to read the struct instance value. I am dumping all the info from ITypeInfo

C/C++ :: Reading Text File Into A Struct

Mar 19, 2012

Basically I want to read data from text-file into two variables in a struct.

The text file is formated in the following way:

var1 [TAB] var2

The problem occurs when var2 is longer than one word and it doesn't really read the data into the struct. Here's the textfile.

DVD    Kidmovie 1
Blu-Ray    Spam Kings 2000
VHS    The Short Road

Here's my program.

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <vector>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
struct movieData{

Visual C++ :: Exporting Struct From DLL

Nov 8, 2013

I'm trying to build the gtkmm library using MSVC. One of its source files declares a struct called BuiltinStockID together with some objects of that type - e.g.

Code:
// In the header file:-
namespace Gtk {
struct BuiltinStockID {
const char* id;

[Code] ....

GTKMM_API is obviously _declspec(dllimport) (or export) as appropriate. It seems a bit unusual to use extern in addition GTKMM_API but the code won't compile if I try to exclude it. The actual instantiations are in one of the library's source files- e.g.

Code:
// In a source file
const Gtk::BuiltinStockID APPLY = { GTK_STOCK_APPLY };
const Gtk::BuiltinStockID CANCEL = { GTK_STOCK_CANCEL };
const Gtk::BuiltinStockID OK = { GTK_STOCK_OK };

GTK_STOCK_APPLY etc are simple strings such as "gtk-apply". They mostly refer to image files for the library to load (in this case, for dialog button images) although that's probably not relevant to the problem.

If I run dumpbin /EXPORTS on the built DLL it does seem to have some exported symbols with the names Gtk::Stock::APPLY, Gtk::Stock::CANCEL, Gtk::Stock::OK etc. However, if I write this in one of my own source files:-

Code:
Gtk::BuiltinStockID MyStockID;
MyStockID = Gtk::Stock::CANCEL; // <--- debugger reports <Bad Ptr>
You can see that the Gtk::Stock::CANCEL object is invalid (my debugger reports it as a bad pointer). Likewise, if I try to pass Gtk::Stock::CANCEL as a parameter to a function.

Visual C++ :: Operator Overload Not Defined Error When Type Accessed Through Const Struct

Oct 17, 2012

I have a basic vector/point class where I've overloaded a bunch of arithmetical operators:

Code:
#pragma once
class point {
public:
point() {
}
point(float p_x, float p_y, float p_z) : x(p_x), y(p_y), z(p_z)

[Code] ...

I can use it fine like

Code:
point p(50,50,50);
point q(50,50,50);
point t = p * q + q;

However when I put this point type into a struct and try to access the members after passing it through by const reference:

Code:
struct sextic {
point a,b,c,d,e,f,g;
};
inline static sextic sexticDifference(const sextic &p_sextic1, c

[Code] ....

This gives me an "operator not defined" error for compilation.

I am passing this structure as &Users to a function that declares it as a void *, then I can deal with chunks of data (memmove) and not have to worry about index or things like that. However...sizeof is returning something I do not understand.

Visual C++ :: Reading / Writing Registry In Windows 7?

Feb 19, 2013

I have a 32-bit application that I've been maintaining for about 12 years and it runs on every Windows platform up to Windows 7. In all that time I've been using CWinApp::GetProfileXxxx() and CWinApp::WriteProfileXxxx() calls to read and write my program settings (about 70 settings) in the Registry. The settings are read from the Registry at start-up and written to the Registry when the program closes. There is also a method for the user to read and write the program settings to an INI file using the same code as the Registry access.

On my Windows 7 system the Registry read/write works just like it always has on all previous Windows versions. However, on some customer's Windows 7 machines there appears to be a problem with the Registry access. The program settings are either not being read from the Registry or are not being written to the Registry. I think the settings are not being written - but I don't know that. When the user uses the INI file the settings appear to be read and written.

The customer has complained a bit (I'd complain too) but doesn't have the time or doesn't want to take the time to run some simple tests for me to find out what's going on with his Windows 7 system.

So here is my question: Are there any user account settings or permissions that can block the program's access to the Registry? He claims he is an Administrator but I can't even get him to verify that.

Visual C++ :: Writing And Reading Char Bytes?

Jun 26, 2013

I have used the following code to write and read wchar_t bytes from a disk file:

Code:
int WriteBytesW(wchar_t * wcp, int nsz, wchar_t * wcfilepath) {
wfstream wf;
codecvt_utf16<wchar_t, 0x10ffff, little_endian> ccvt(1);
locale wloc(wf.getloc(), &ccvt);
wf.imbue(wloc);

[Code] ....

Output:

save bytes succeeded
1234 5678 9ABC EF12 ABCD FE21 DCBA 1F2A EFFF 02FF
read bytes succeeded
nsz =: 20

Now, if wbuf[8] = 0xefff; is replaced by wbuf[8] = 0xffff;

Output:

save bytes succeeded
1234 5678 9ABC EF12 ABCD FE21 DCBA 1F2A 02FF
read bytes succeeded
nsz =: 18

Obviously, the 0xffff wbyte is not read. WHY ?

This presents a significant problem when attempting to read ALL wbytes from a file.

Visual C++ :: Reading And Outputting Files - Sentences And Abbreviations

I have got an assignment. It is about comparing two files one file has sentences and the other abbreviations. so far i have managed to compare the abbreviations which appear in the sentence and erase punctuation linked to abbreviations.

However I am currently stuck on putting the punctuation back in when outputting the file. I am also stuck with replacing matching words in the sentences with the expanded abbreviations. Not sure which code to show. but sentences and abbreviations are below.

ABBREVIATIONS

Aberd Aberdeen
admin administration
approx approximate
Austral Australia
div division
Capt Captain
Comdr Commander
e east
HQ Head Quarters
m metres
mil million
mt Mount
n north
NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organisation
NSW New South Wales
pop population
s south
sq square
w west

Text file

NATO troops were on exercise in Aberd Capt Jones of the first div told Comdr Frank that his troops were near the E flank of the NATO forces. Complaining about the amount of Admin, Capt Jones radioed the NATO HQ asked for navigation relative to the HQ. The Captain then left.

For example the abbreviation "Aberd" in the sentence above needs to be replaced with Aberdeen from the abbreviations file. I need the last part of the abbreviation not "Aberd Aberdeen" need just "Aberdeen". Hope the info is understandable.
