C++ :: Using While Loops To Validate String Input

Jul 2, 2013

Im having trouble with the while loop, this program should ask the user for their name, if incorrect it should send an error msg and ask for input again...after the correct name is entered the program should prompt the user to enter a password, again if incorrect it should send an error msg and ask for input again.

the code below does what it should when asking for a name..HOWEVER it does not allow the user to enter a password and instead jumps straight to the error msg..

#include<iostream>
#include<string>
#include<iomanip>
using namespace std;
int main() {
// Variables
string username;
string password;

[Code] .....

After the correct name is entered, the program displays this:

"Welcome, Sadia Rajput."
"To continue, enter your password: That is incorrect, enter password: "

I would prefer to do this using the while loops and not bool statements

C :: Check If Input Is Integer Using Only Loops?

Nov 3, 2013

I have a homework that needs to verify if the input of the user is an integer using only loops no if statements Here's the problem:

A program is required that prompts the user for a number. The program will then print a series of asterisks to represent the number. If the user enters a number less than 1, the program stops. For example:

Enter a number: 5
*****
Enter a number: 3
***
Enter a number: 9
*********
Enter a number: 0

All user input must be validated:
- Check for non-numeric input when reading numeric input
- Check that values entered are within the expected range for their purpose, or in range based on the requirements statement

C++ :: Display Triangular Pattern - infinite Loops From Input Validation

Mar 1, 2014

I am writing a program to display a triangular pattern using nested loops and user input for the size of the base and character used to generate the image. 99% of the program runs fine. However I am having trouble with some of my input validation.

When given an integer value for the base I can verify if it is within a certain range (0-80). However, when the user inters a "char" instead of an "int" the program enters an infinite loop.

Here is the piece of code giving me trouble. (I wont bother you with the entire chunk of code, I have commented out everything else to narrow down the problem bit)

// Pattern Displays
// program that asks user for the size of the base of a triangle and then generates it in a character the user chooses

#include <iostream>
#include <istream>
#include <string>
#include <cstdlib>
using namespace std;
int main () {
char escape;

C++ :: How To Do Loops With String Arrays

Oct 23, 2014

understanding how to do loops with string arrays.

If I have few string arrays with some elements, for example:

string pizza[3]= {"ham", "tomato", "chees"};
string pasta[3]= {"tomato", "chicken", "olive"};

I wonder how, if I was to ask user for example:

string ingredient;
cout << " Please type an ingredient: ";
cin >> ingredient;

If user was to type in tomato, how can I loop it, to get an output like:

Pizza and pasta have tomato as an ingredient.

Is there any other way, to get the same result for this kind of problem.

C++ :: Validate Unsigned Operations?

Oct 12, 2012

I've sometimes encountered unexpected runtime issues caused by unsigned values being decremented below zero.

Example 1: "unsigned_value += negative_integer_value;"
Example 2: "for( size_t i = size - 1; i >= 0; --i )"

My compiler doesn't provide any compile-time or run-time warnings.

As far as I know, it's not possible to overload operators of primitive data types to check if the unsigned value is decremented below zero.

Any clever strategy to trace such cases at debug runtime, without having to add asserts all over the code? It's important that it does not affect performance in release mode.

C/C++ :: How To Validate Data Stored In A File

Jun 21, 2014

I am trying to build a employee management system using C, and I have done alot so far. Everything seems to work fine, but then I thought that I should let the user store the data of their employees permanently, therefore I created a file and then I store the user's given data in the txt file.

Here is the code:

#include<stdio.h>
#include<conio.h>
#include<string.h>

[Code].....

But there is some problem, and I don't seem to understand what is the problem in the code, it's just that whenever the user enters any id to search, and presses any key then nothing appears just a blank screen! I wanted to know that how can I check the ID from the text file and then display the details of the employee of that id!

C/C++ :: Comparing Input String To Type String Vector

May 29, 2014

I wrote a program that reads a list from a file and stores it in a string type vector. Now, I want the user to input a word so that the program can search the vector to see if that word already exists. I have used every possible way of reading input from the console and storing it in order to compare with the vector but it never results in a match. When I print the input string and the vector string they are exactly the same thing (or at least print to the console as if they were). I've tried using getline; using cin direct to a string var; using cin to a char array and then casting to string using string str(arr); I even added a newline at the end just in case and STILL I cannot get a match.

vector <string> currentSet; //read a list in from a file and has 9 items in it
cin.ignore();
string line;
getline(cin, line);
if(line == vector[0]){//if printed to console line is HEAT and vector[0] is HEAT
cout<<"match"<<endl;
}

int count = 0; //to keep track of how many chars have been used
char c; // to store the current char
