C++ :: Outputting Transactions From A Text File To Screen

Jan 19, 2014

I am working on a wage application with four options which are as follows:

Subtracts an amount from the shop bank account (The account is text file "shop"). You do not need to add the same amount to another account but you should record the transaction with a timestamp in a separate file. The application should prevent the account balance from becoming overdrawn.

List the five most recent transactions to the screen. If there haven’t yet been five transactions then list all of them.

Print the account name, number and current balance to the screen.

Exit the program.

I have completed 1,3 and 4 but I am completely stumped as to how to go about number 2.

#include <limits>
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <ctime>
#include <string>
int read_balance(void);
void write_balance(int balance);

C++ :: Outputting Partially Filled Array Onto Text File?

Jul 24, 2014

I have a partially filled array and I want to put that into a text file. Say I don't know how partially filled it is. How would I stop at the very end of the array where it has the last amount of data.

ex.
int array[9] = {1,2,5,6};
ofstream output("txt file");
for(int i = 0;i < 9; i++){
output << array[i]
}

How would I stop as soon as i becomes 4 because that is when the array stops?

C++ :: Program That Reads Text From A File And Outputs Each Line To The Screen - I/O Streams

Jun 15, 2013

I seem to be missing a concept or 2 here ... I am tasked with writing a program that reads text from a file and outputs each line to the screen as well as to another file PRECEDED by a line number ...

In addition, I have to Print the line number at the start of the line and right-adjusted in a field of 3 spaces ...

Follow the line number with a colon then 1 space, then the text of the line.

Another kicker, is I have to grab the data 1 character at a time and write code to ignore leading blanks on each line.

Here is what I have so far:

#include <iostream>
#include <conio.h>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <cctype>
using namespace std;
int main() {
char next;
int count = 0;

C++ :: Getting Data From A File And Outputting

Apr 17, 2013

I am given a data file that contains sports data for 24 people. There are two rounds of the event. The first 48 lines of the file give the data for the 1st round and the second 48 lines give data for the 2nd round. The file looks like this:

Azrin, Neil
2.3 6.0 5.0 6.7 7.8 5.6 8.9 7.6
Babbage, Charles
2.3 5.6 6.5 7.6 8.7 7.8 5.4 4.5
Burks, Arthur
2.8 4.5 5.4 6.6 7.7 8.8 5.6 6.5
Crick, Francis
1.6 6.5 6.5 6.5 7.3 7.5 7.8 5.6
and so on ............

This data continues for all 24 people and then repeats with different score values for the second round. The first number after the persons name is the level of difficulty and then next 7 numbers are the scores. I am trying to get this data out of the file and set it up in the following format:

Name Of Person
Round 1: level of difficulty scores
Round 2: level of difficulty scores

So the table for the above data would look something like this:
Arzin, Neil
Round 1: 2.3 6.0 5.0 6.7 7.8 5.6 8.9 7.6
Round 2: 2.1 6.0 5.0 6.5 7.8 5.6 8.8 7.6
Babbage, Charles
Round 1: 2.3 5.6 6.5 7.6 8.7 7.8 5.4 4.5
Round 2: 2.3 5.4 6.5 7.6 8.7 7.2 5.4 5.5

And so on for all 24 people. This is the code I have for it, but it just reads the file directly:

// I have already opened the file!
while (inFile) {
string name;
getline(inFile,name);
cout << name << endl;
}

How I can do some sort of formatting on this data?

C :: Read A Line From Screen / Takes ASCII Values From Entered Text And Edit It

May 10, 2013

This is a small program that reads a line from the screen, takes the ASCII values from the entered text, and edits it. Next, the ASCII values are reinterpreted (am i misspelling?) as text, and displayed. However, my final output has (allways?) at least 7 characters, even if you enter only one. I'm also trying to accomplish, that the part of the string which isn't filled, will be printed empty. In spaces.

C++ :: Outputting Data From File Into Structs And Arrays Of Structs

Apr 15, 2013

I am having a lot of trouble being able to get data from a file and input it into given structs and arrays of structs and then outputting the file. We are given a file that contains 96 lines and looks like this:

Arzin, Neil
2.3 6.0 5.0 6.7 7.8 5.6 8.9 7.6
Babbage, Charles
2.3 5.6 6.5 7.6 8.7 7.8 5.4 4.5

This file continues for 24 different people and then repeats with different scores (the second line).
The first number, in this case is 2.3 for both people is a difficulty rating. The next 6 numbers are scores.

We are given this data in order to set up our structs and arrays and my code:

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <string>
#include <cmath>
using namespace std;
int main () {
ifstream inFile;
inFile.open("C://diveData.txt);

Visual C++ :: Text Size In Screen Is Different From Size In Print Preview?

Feb 1, 2013

I must take an old MFC project in VC++ 6.0 and make changes.

The problem is text size in screen is different from size in print preview.

for example with this font

Code:
CFont f50;
f50.CreateFont(100,0,0,0,FW_BOLD,0,0,0,DEFAULT_CHARSET,OUT_DEFAULT_PRECIS,
CLIP_DEFAULT_PRECIS,DEFAULT_QUALITY,FF_DONTCARE,"Frutiger LT Std 45 Light");

And this text

Code:
s=_T("Let's try to calculate the size of this text");

and with MM_LOMETRIC map mode

GetTextExtent() returns me:

On screen: (1595,99)
Ink printer + print preview: (1589,100)
PDFCreator + print preview: (1580,100)

comparing with screen size the height is bigger but lenght is smaller. I don't understand.

I can understand that different printers process the fonts in different way and then to have different lenghts. That's not the problem. The problem is I need to simulate in screen the same behaviour i will have on printer because these texts are being aligned in the document, and I don't want to see that the text si aligned different in text than in paper.

What can I do to render the text on screen with the same size I will have on the printer? Print preview is doing it. Should I change the font parameters? is something related with pixels per inch?

C :: Reading Data From CSV File Or Memory Onto Screen?

Jul 26, 2014

I have a csv file (comma delimited text file really) and I have data ,about 6400 lines, and I need to read and display data from 1 line. At the bottom is sample data from my csv file.

I want to read onto the screen the 3rd item .. ie Test User 1 and the date and time at the end (the last 2 items).

I will enter in a number .. from which I will want to retrieve the appropriate record .. in this case I would enter in 514, 563 or 874 and get back the info for that record.

This is a DOS 16 bit application .. and I know that some of the data is in memory already but I am not sure how to tell .. or how to retrieve it.

I do have the ability to save the data to the file at any time .. so I can use that to ensure that the data is current in the text file before I retrieve the data from this 1 row.

I think that it may just be easier to get from the text file ? but I am not sure.

0000,7,0,"Test User 1",53c145cb,db,5,514,514,2014/07/12,10:27:23
0001,7,0,"Test User 2",53d7f,1903,10,563,563,2014/07/24,11:04:31
0002,7,0,"Test User 3",529c,5ffb03,0,874,874,2013/12/02,09:07:58

I am a database guy .. and I am just a bit lost when it comes to C programming as such.

C++ :: Convert List Of Binary Numbers From A File Into Decimal And Print To Screen

Sep 23, 2014

I am trying to make a program that will convert a list of binary numbers from a file into decimal and print the decimal to the screen. I have no problem doing the conversion, the problem comes up when our teacher wants the input file in a format as such:

3
10110101
11111111
10101010

The first number is supposed to tell the program how many different 8bit strings it is going to have to convert, and then the following lines are those binary numbers.

I am not very experienced with file inputs, and I know how to open files and read lines in.. The problem is, how to say "ok the first line says 3, so now I have to convert the next 3 lines" . I am assuming it is just a simple loop that I am missing....
