C++ :: Letter Frequency Count

Nov 13, 2013

I am new to c++. I am writing a program that reads in a text file and gives a count of how many times each letter appeared in the file. I got it to read the text file and do the letter count. B

X = 102
Y = 126
Z = 165
etc...

THAT IS WORNG

The sample output should be
E = 165
T = 126
A = 102
O = 93
etc...

I got it to sort from lowest to highest for the frequency, but cant seem to get the appropriate letter assigned to it.

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <string>

[code].....

C/C++ :: Calculating Letter Count From Array Of Pointers To Strings

Feb 28, 2015

I need to calculate how often each letter appears in a text file from a function that is called from main() with an array of pointers to char and how many pointers there are in the array. The code i have so far is:

#include<stdio.h>
#include<string.h>
#include<ctype.h>
#include<stdlib.h>

[Code]....

I get no errors and it runs but it gives me the wrong output. I know my array is correct because when i print it in main() it is correct but each letter is incorrectly counted. When i give it the input .txt file of:

This is one line of a string
This is another
This is the third one
Wow heres another one
It counts a as 8
b as 1
c as 3
etc.

I have hand traced it and cant figure out why it isnt giving me correct values

Visual C++ :: Program That Count From 1 To 12 And Print Count And Its Square For Each Count

Dec 16, 2014

4.1 Write a program that will count from 1 to 12 and print the count, and its square, for each count.

4.2 Write a program that counts from 1 to 12 and prints the count and its inversion to 5 decimal places for each count. This will require a floating point number.

4.3 Write a program that will count from 1 to 100 and print only those values between 32 and 39, one to a line. Use the incrementing operator for this program.

Visual C++ :: CPP High Frequency Trading

Jul 15, 2014

I have taken a keen interest in writing trading programs. I have some Python background, a little C# but no C++.

The example below was provided in a book on HFT and I would love to see how the results look. I was hoping that I would just compile it and away you go!

That didn't happen. To start with the author listed this as a function, so I converted it to a main program. Still having issues with my path and where to see the output. Here it is..

Code

void HFT_AvellanedaStoikov() {
FILE* fin, *fout;
double lambda_a, lambda_b, d_lambda_a, d_lambda_b;
int hh = 0, mm = 0, ss, nb = 0, na = 0, prevnb = 0, prevna = 0, prevm = 0;
double bid, ask, prevbid = 0, prevask = 0;
char * p1, *p2, buffer[1024], fname[512];

[Code] .....

Here is some data:

14 49 24.37 24.38
14 49 24.37 24.38
14 49 24.37 24.38
14 49 24.37 24.38

C++ :: Find Frequency (string Into Struct Array)?

Apr 17, 2013

I'm trying to figure out the word frequency of a user inserted string. I've tried doing it via getline of the struct array and via the getline of the string word but neither either the former crashes or the latter just prints out the whole string.

Here is the latter.

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#define MAX_WORDS 200
using namespace std;

C/C++ :: Finding Highest Frequency From Array Of Characters

Jan 27, 2015

I have been working on a project that deals with an array of characters and finding there frequencies. I was able to determine the frequencies that where greater than 1, but I need to find the HIGHEST frequency.

Here is my full code:

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void input(char unlisted[80], int& n);
void bubblesort(char unlisted[80], char sortedlist[80], int n);

[Code].....

As you can see this will print out all frequencies that are bigger than 1, but I only want the highest frequency. Basically I want to print out all frequencies when count is greater than 1 less than count, but because its in a loop count will always be greater than count-1 so it prints out all frequencies.

C :: Detect Frequency Of Printable Characters - Incorrect Outcome

Mar 10, 2013

We have to make a code to detect the frequency of printable characters. But when I run the code, sometimes it can't detect the Uppercase Letters. But it can sometimes. It's a bit buggy, and it really can't get the frequency of the space character.

Does textcolor affect the outcome?

Code:
#include<stdio.h>#include<conio.h>
int main ()
{
clrscr();
char name[40],sentence[1000],ch;
int c=0,count[95]={0};
textcolor(LIGHTCYAN);

[Code] ....

I also noticed that it stops detecting the frequency when there is a space between character/s.

C/C++ :: Frequency Distribution - Finds All Numbers In Array That Show Up Exactly 5 Times

Create a program that finds all numbers in an array that show up exactly 5 times. I am trying to solve this issue by making a frequency distribution via two loops and two arrays, but I am having trouble getting my loop to not recount a number it has already counted.

For example, if you enter ten 1's into the "entered Numbers" array I want it to store a count of 10 in frequencyarray[1]. Instead it is storing

frequencyarray[0]10
frequencyarray[1]9
frequencyarray[2]8
etc...

#include <iostream>

void enternumber(long[], int);
int main() {
int size;
int numbers5=0;

C/C++ :: Statistical Analysis Of Vector Data Set Of Integers - Frequency Distribution?

Feb 16, 2014

I am working on my second c++ project that is a statistical analysis of a vector data set of integers. I created a struct called range with a maximum value, minimum value and count for occurrence. The frequencies are stored in a vector<range>.

I have tried messing around with the increment to get the high range test above the maximum element, though my ranges cumulatively increase by 9.9. I'm not sure how the professor's program has the distance between high and low ranges as 10 instead of 9.9, which is the increment. I'm also unsure why half way through his buckets, the ranges appear as 9.99 briefly and then return to 10 after (40.00 - 49.99 then 49.99 - 59.99). I feel like I am missing something very obvious on line 04 or 10 in my code.

Here is the code for the frequency that accepts a vector reference for my data set of integers.

void frequency(vector<int>& data_set){
double max = findMax(data_set);
double min = findMin(data_set);
double increment = (max - min) / 10;
double percentage = 0.0;

C :: Write Text And Find Frequency Of 1 Chosen Character In It - Input Error Handling

Dec 20, 2014

I'm new in programming, and trying to write a code in C. The requirement is following - to write a text, and to find frequency of 1 chosen character in it. The main thing is that program should check user input (for example, I want to check if user entered "char" --> then correct, or if entered "int" --> not correct). But the program still doesn't check. So I have:

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int main(){
char c[1000], ch;
char i, count=0;
printf("Enter a text: ");
gets(c);

[Code] ....

Am I on my right way using if/else?

lets say helxo , x is the 2nd occurrence of l. I will want to change back x into l

i have replaced it with x in the earlier step with this code...

string everySecondChar(const string &s,char source,char distance)
{
string t(s);
for(std::string::size_type even =0,pos=t.find(source,0);pos!=std::string::npos;pos=t.find(source,++pos))

how am i suppose to search for the 2nd occurrence of the letter and then replace it with x?

example hammer will become hamxer

I thought about using replace for it, however i`m lost on how to find 2 occurrences of the same letter in the word.

string formatEncrypt(string message) {
int msgLength=message.length();
for(int i=0;i<msgLength;i++) {
if(message[i] == 'j' {
message[i]='i';

C/C++ :: Determine That Char Is A Letter

Nov 18, 2014

I need to count how many times letter appears in a text. I know that for default letters from 'a' to 'z' and from 'A' to 'Z' there is an interval. But I need also Lithuanian letters, such as ž,č,ę. I wrote this method: (it accepts char code and checks whether that char is a letter)

bool eilutė::YraRaidė(int kodas)
{
if(kodas >= 'a' && kodas <= 'z') {
return true;

[Code]....

As you can see, a lot of checking in switch statement. I use 256 for this reason to have the same effect as unsigned char. But maybe there is a way to shrink down this method, or use some library?
