C/C++ :: File Search Not Starting At First Record
Aug 10, 2014
Below is a snippet of my code in which it loops through a file trying to find the matching record of a selection given by the user. I use tellg() to tell me where the search begins and it does in fact start at the beginning. But when the search actually executes, it starts at the last record, loops once, and ends, as it does not find the matching record (when the user enters '24' for example)
void Hardware::updateExistingRecord(ofstream &addRecordInfo, ifstream &updateRecord, Hardware &_records) {
//selection on which field to update
enum Field { RECORD_NUMBER = 1, TOOL_NAME, QUANTITY, COST, EXIT };
cout << "Enter record number you would like to update
";
cout << "Enter zero to exit
?";

I am trying to get my program to search for the account ID in the structure and deletes the record as the account ID is found. The problem is that my codes are not working. (since my whole program is too long, I only show a part of it.) Here are my codes:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
struct Account
{
char* Account_ID;
char* AccountOwner_FirstName;
char* AccountOwner_LastName;

I'm working on a program using class booktype... to hold information about various books that I have saved on a txt file. Each object of the class book type holds the author, publisher, ISBN, number of copies in stock.
I am still very much new at c++ and not exactly sure how to get in info from the file I've made earlier..
Code:
#include<iostream>
#include<iomanip>
#include<string>
#include<cstring>
#include<fstream>
using namespace std;
class bookType {
Also the text file is formatted where after I've entered the author's name I then hit return, then publisher then I hit return, ISBN then return, and so forth does that effect the program? As for my txt file this is what I have
Code:
Moby Dick
Sebastian Armesto
Oberoson Books Ltd
0001
201
The Scarlet Letter

I am working on my final project for my intro to c++. Its a simple program where you buy a car, choose parts for it, see the price of it in total, buying option, and to view past records.
So my problem lies with displaying the records. For some reason(doesn't many how many records there are) the very last record displays again without the "Model" part, but displays the rest of them fine. In other words, there are 2 problems, the last record is displayed twice, 2nd that added record displayed is missing the "model"(this problem doesn't matter really if you can solve the first problem, but would still like to know why it does that).
I tried debugging it and I believe the problem lies with the --------while(fName.good()). It just decides to repeat it again even though in the text file, it does not have that extra record.
//inventory
void viewInvent(string fName)
{
//variables

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
typedef struct SYSTEM_MOVIE{
int movie_code;
int movie_dur;
char movie_title[25];

1) output in text/.exe file display random characters.
2) Data obtained from New_Staff unable to pass into Export_Profile.
3) a new output will overwrite the existing information in the text/.exe file
4) the delete function unable to delete correctly after the first time i delete a staff information in text file.
The code is as follows:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
void Menu();

I am just starting out learning C and I am using MinGW, Widnows 7, and cmd.exe.I am starting from scratch and learning very short and simple programs, like 20 lines long.After I use MinGW (gcc) to compile, the programs start up rather slowly, sometimes up to about 3-5 seconds. One with a big nested loop even took about 15 seconds to load. After they run once, the next time they run, it's instant.
Last time I learned from this book, I don't remember them starting so slowly. I use the command "gcc sample.c -o sample".It just concerns me that these tiny little programs are starting up so slowly. I'm scared it's a problem with my computer or MinGW installation. When I start making more advanced programs, I don't want them running slower than they ought to be.

The following code prevents windows from letting the monitor go into sleep mode when the program is active and wakes the monitor up after a scanner scans something.
Code:
protected override void WndProc(ref Message m) {
if (m.Msg == W32.Const.WM_SYSCOMMAND &&
(m.WParam.ToInt32() & 0xfff0) == W32.Const.SC_MONITORPOWER && m.LParam.ToInt32() != -1)
{
return;
[Code] ....
When the program is started normally it works fine. But when the program is started from a network share it goes to sleep anyway and the OnScan does not work anymore. Removing the Send Message line makes On Scan work again but then the monitor wont wake up on a scan of course.
What could be the problem here when started from the network?

I am trying to create a function to find the entry point of my map.But my program does not seem to be working correctly. I am trying to place a dot there because I will have to use recursion to fill up the whole map. But I'm not asking for the answer. I just need writing a function to locate the starting row for the first column of the maze (first non zero element). My code seems to have a bug in it when I try and call my function FindEntry. What I am trying to do is read in column by column until I can find the starting point and then place a dot there with ASCII character 249. This is my code so far:
Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<Windows.h>
#define HEIGHT 21
#define WIDTH 78
[Code]....
If you try and run it, it will give you a bug. But if you comment out the FindEntry function in the main it will work and look like this:

I just started learning C and trying to create a program in C that will have a starting menu for a calculator. The problem is that I could do that with a switch/case but the assignment requires me to use if/else.
Here's what I have so far:
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
int calc();
int menu();
int main() {
printf("Hello. Welcome to the program.
");
printf("Press RETURN key to continue...
[Code]...
How should I go from now using if/else to have those 4 choices?

I'm supposed to write C program that will generate a 5 X 5 multiplication table starting with the number of the users choice. The program is supposed to operate within a loop and run until the user indicates that they no longer wish to enter any more numbers. I can get the program to run but am wondering what I need to do to get the program to ask for another number and how to make the program stop when the user no longer wants to play. Should I start with "Do you want to enter a number" if yes, run back through loop if no, goodbye?

The following code is useful to allow a user to select a particular folder in the disk directory.
Code:
void OpenFolder() {
LPMALLOC pMalloc; //,pMalloc2;
CString strDirectory;
BROWSEINFO bi;
// Gets the Shell's default allocator
wchar_t pszBuffer[MAX_PATH];
[Code] ....
However, if one uses this code over and over, one quickly becomes tired of threading one's way all the way from root directory C:. There is undoubtedly some way to designate a starting directory. The most obvious candidate to set such a target is the:
Code:
bi.pidlRoot = NULL;
But attempting to set bi.pidlRoot to a CString (directory address) errors because 'no suiitable conversion from CString to LPCITEMIDLIST exists'
How can I set the code to open at a designated address in the directory tree?

I am trying to implement a Task scheduler where i have n number of tasks. The Idea behind my task scheduler is that in a loop of queues of a vector, task should get enqueued to the shortest queue among the loop of queues, which is done by the following code.
#include <vector>
#include <queue>
std::vector<std::queue<int> > q
int min_index = 0;
task t // implemented in the other part of the program
[Code] ....
Next i am trying to extend this paradigm to reduce the overhead time of the scheduler, Instead of searching the shortest queue every time, search after some condition ie. search the shortest queue after 5 tasks gets enqueued to the shortest queue.
i need to do something like this
#include <vector>
#include <queue>
std::vector<std::queue<int> > q
task t // implemented in the other part of the program
while(q[min_index].size()!=q[min_index].size()+5) // check whether current min_index queue's size is increased 5 more times if not goto enqueue
[code].....

I should state that I am recently new to C programming. I have dabbled with Python in the past, but nothing formal. I am taking a C programming class, but it is an introductory course. As such, the instructor is moving extremely slow through the material.
With this program, I am trying to search a given text file (line-by-line) for user-submitted data. I then want to be able to store which line that data was found on. The program runs, but it always results in "Sorry, couldn't find a match." Even if it shouldn't.
Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <conio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
}
[code]...
I should probably explain my overall goal with this program.I would like to write a program that will calculate the molecular weight of a compound. I expect the user entered molecular compound to be something like this: CH3COOH (An equivalent entry could be C2H4O2)Also, it needs to be case sensitive because the chemical formulas are case sensitive.
The output will be "The molecular weight of CH3COOH is xxx.xxxxx grams".I have two text files as well. One contains a list of all chemical symbols, and the second is a list of all atomic weights in the same order as the first. I want to place the user inputted data into an array, then search for each element of that array in the chemical symbol text file. It will show which line it was found on, then I can use that line to grab the atomic weight from the second text file.

How it suppose to work: input 2 coordinates with a value each then it calculates the distance between them then it suppose to let user search the coordinates for a value and state if found which coordinate it is at.
